Our game plan?

After seeing the last 4 MCG game plus many of the preseason games I have come to the conclusion that we have a major flaw in our game plan (if we have one).

A couple of points.

Most quality AFL sides handball forward to a player on the move, Richmond tries to create space by handballing sideways to a stationary player who quite often gets caught causing a turn over. If this is our game plan it doesn't work! In fact we very rarely run straight through the lines, however when we do we go inside fifty almost every time. Our senior players dont block or shephard a path through for a player with the ball like other sides do. Why do we have similar type footballers in the middle at the same time? Foley is our best in and under at the moment, but he needs a fast line breaking player like Deledio or Tambling in there to break free of the pack. Why is Deledio not in the middle full stop? In fact why do we play such complicated football? We need to handball forward run in straight lines and keep it simple stupid!

Our Forward line set up is just all wrong. It's always over crowded, always under manned, and there are never any Richmond crumbers who look dangerous at ground level. Why do our 2 tall forward stand so close together? Does Wallace think this is a good thing? Am I the only person who thinks this just creats a crowed situation allowing the oppostion to drop back and cover key forwards. Why cant we play 3 tall forwards? It's not like we have any damaging small forwards or crumbers that we must have in our forward line. None of our small forwards create defensive pressure keeping the ball inside the forward fifty. Couldn't we play Richo out at CHF Schulz at FF and Polak/Simmonds in the pocket all night?

I'm no expert, but if you look back at the last 4 weeks and the preseason there is a very disturbing pattern of game style emerging at Richmond.

Is this style of play is obviously our game plan??

I know we dont have the best list in the AFL but I dont think we are that bad. The players are taking all the heat but I'm thinking it's not their fault at all!

We have no game plan.

Players look confused out there.

They look like they lack confidence, decision making poor.

Too many handballs and handballs into trouble , to a man who is already covered.

Kick the bloody thing?

What happened to the promise of exciting, attacking footy.

Gone................................

We have no idea what is it so how to you think the players have any?

To run into trouble!! Not give off to the 1st option give it to a bloke who is flat footed & has 3 players on him then kick blindly to CHF where the other team will find team mates & kick goals!!

What game plan? The handball to someone next to you under pressure game plan?

after watching our games this yr and particularly last night's game i can see that the players are under strict instructions not to kick blindly and turn the ball over, so their solution is to handball to the nearest bloke with nobody on him, but unfortunately they are often stationary and have someone tackle them immediately after the 'telegraphed' handball arrives.

And another thing, why did we only play that tight, match-up football for the last 10 minutes of each quarter? We completely shut them down when we did that, why didn't we play like that for the whole game?

Spot on, especially about the midfield, I was thinking exactly that last night. Johnson must be taken out of there, put him on a wing maybe. I get that Wallace is trying to make us play a skillful game but its not working, maybe its because the forward line isn't functioning well and moving into space well enough forcing us to handball all the time, but that means more work must be put into the forward line to get them functioning properly.

Richo should be played higher, we looked more dangerous when he was. Depends if he can run out a fulll game I guess. I still think Polak should be played at CHB, we need a big body there.
