The other thing that I've noticed in Rds 1 & 3 (didn't get to Geelong) is that when we've lost confidence during the course of the game, most players have stopped presenting and moving to provide options for players with the ball. While this is an issue that has to be addressed asap (lack of movement will be the end of you in team ball in motion sports), this situation seems to have then encouraged the ball carrier to look sideways and go to an option that's not really on (one-on-one contest in many cases). Think King and Tambling turnovers from last Monday. Football disaster the strikes.
What i can't understand (and the good teams still do it) is that if there are no short or switch of play options on, why not go 50 metres down the line to a contest and take the opposition on through strength of numbers and hardness at the ball. In many cases a kick from 70-80 metres from goal would finish 20 or so metres from the sticks in a 'hot spot'. Back yourselves as a team, structure accordingly and take the game on. Sometimes the perfect option will just not occur on every play when you have the ball.
