With all the focus on the draft and a KPP, I thought I might be worth mentioning the great crop of onballers we've built up and I believe this is where our hopes lie for a GF appearance in the next 3-4 years;

Delidio - he has suprised in becoming a James Hird type hard man to add to his other standout talents including speed, sharp-shooting and tackling - Brownlow.
Cotchin - please Footy Gods...minor injuries only - the next big thing. Brownlow also.
Connors - love this guy. has the 3 key indicators - class, class, class.
Foley - the dart. will learn the art of tag-shaking and be a a champ
White - just needs the Craig Bradley school of kicking on the run and will be awesome.
Tambling - is he the next Andrew McLeod or Andrew Krakour? I'm backing him to be a champ.
Tuck - hard nut - sharp shooter - automatic selection.
Edwards - mosquito fleeter who should be in side to kick goals off bench at least.
Thompson - talk around the BBQ's in Adelaide is that he has a bit of Kositschke fever and can be reckless. Massive ball winner though. Should take the pressure off Tuck.
Jordy - most GF teams have a soft ball winner. He'll be ours.
Coughlan - Would be a bonus even if a pinch hitter off the bench
Polo - not sure how he'll go but I really want him to become a champ, like Bling could go either way.
Sugar - Well I like to remember him in the 97-98 flags with young Goodwin and McLeod, but think he'll tag from here on in if he plays.

Don't know enough about Collins because I haven't seen him in the big league enough.

Anyway from Tuck upwards is a group of players worth getting excited about and I think the RFC onballers of 2010-> will be one of our best (injury dependant).

If Thursfield & Moore stay fit i think we actually have a chance at the big prize. Obviously Jack, Clever & co have to be very good but not necessarily standouts.

There is one jigsaw piece missing and come Saturday if the Gods are on our side we will get that piece and our recruiters know what the piece looks like. ;)

santa is coming, watch out!

Still a work in progress Rexy but let's hope so.

We have struggled for a decade or more because we never had enough A grade mids. Knights, Brodders, and Campbell on the park at the same time about the best we could offer and that at least made us competitive.

In recent years we had Cogs in 2002/3 as the only a Grader and then Foley in 2007, again with little back up. In 2009 and beyond we can tentatively mark down the following A graders:

Deledio, Foley, Cotchin

We have quality extractors in Tuck, Cogs and Thompson, with Tuck inching up to A grade status and fingers crossed for Cogs who might get there again.

That's a fair starting 6.

Factor in taggers Jackson, King and Johno - all have had some success in the role despite some reservations on their overall game.

And finally the make or break will be the second tier/developing mids:

Polo, Tambling, Edwards, Connors, Collins and White.

For mine there is every reason to be confident that one or two of those will also graduate to consistent quality mids.

Interesting draft Saturday - do you roll the dice with someone like Swift and add some more class or do you look at areas we lack depth in? Time will tell!

Sad but true - unless we can pull off a Judd like coup (or other ex WA player) in the next 3-4 years these are the guys that have to take us there.
It should be our best midfield since the mid 90's as long as the old RFC curse is dead and buried...
