Seeing Gas has been out outside the list it means we now have to use all 3 draft picks plus a PSD pick to fill the spots doesn't it? How many do we have to have on the final list?

I'm pretty sure now Gas is outside the list he takes one of the rookie spots (ie 1 less rookie we can have) and we save on the salary cap.

An"outside" veteran means they're not included on the senior list so they don't take up a spot and we save salary wise.  I think only half the salary is included in the cap?

The rookie list can be made up of different combinations. 5 rookies or 4 rookies and 1 veteran or 3 rookies and 2 veterans etc.

Rosy we must have 38 senior players to take into season 2006; a veteran counts as a senior player.

so we must draft 3 and we can take 4.

we can take between 0 - 5 rookies.

Veterans can remain on their team's primary list of 38 or can be listed separately. This is largely to do with the issue of total player payments (TPP).

The most number of players a club can have overall is 44, which can be made up of several combinations.

If two veterans are nominated outside of the primary list, it allows a club to have a senior list of 40 players, plus four rookies.*

Some clubs have 38 primary list players, two separately listed veterans and four rookies, while others have 38 players, which include two veterans, and six rookies.

* We have one veteran outside the list so can have a maximum of 5 rookies.

Sure can, Wayne carey was a veteran. You can also drop them back to the main list if you want to.

I doubt that we elevated gaspar for salary cap reasons; he's been moved up to make room for a bloke in the PSD.

and i'm happy to bet big money on we won't take 5 rookies.

2006: 39 blokes and 2 rookies I reckon

Thanks for the update, Rosy.

Gaspar outside was a welcome surprise.

Why did we do it?

We can't want to save the dough (only half of his salary is counted in our TPP) as we are well under the cap. We aren't making room for a high price recruit.

So we must be doing it to make room for another player on the main list. Unless we are looking to leave a spot to promote a rookie during the year (unlikely).

Therefore we are taking four additional players on the senior list. Three youth, one experienced, you'd guess.

I hope we take five rookies.

Guys,

I would not be surprised if we were to run with a player short again next year. Even though we can draft 4 I suspect that we will not use all our picks and leave a slot open for a rookie elevation.

I'd say there will be someone in the PSD that they are looking at.

If it is someone cheap (like heaven forbid, Haynes), then they'll probably take three or four rookies, if it is someone more expensive, then the rookies will be two again.

I can't see then going for the full contingent. It would, however, be the smart thing to do.
