Our list at the halfway mark.

He has to be more of a prospect than Howat, Cartledge or Slyvester.

I think we were looking at drafting him on to the actual list rather than rookie drafting him, in which case I doubt he offers more than other already on the list as I stated. If we merely rookie drafted him would he have wanted to come over when he could have stayed in Perth on the Eagles rookie list as he has done?

And we did want to rookie Zomer instead of Sylvester but Melbourne got in ahead of us.

Why do we have three rookies (Howat, Sylvester & Cartledge) that are just clearly not up to it and never will be. Shouldn't those spots be reserved for raw long term tallent?....not guys that have been passed over again and again because they are too slow and not up to it.
It is amazing to see that other clubs are bringing regular players through via the rookie list, I see Wilkes over at West Coast is getting a regular game, a guy that we could have had for nothing!

yep. Another case of poor list management.
Rememeber Foley and thursfeild came from our rookie list, you would think this would be enough for the club to realise how important taking a chance on younger players can do.

but first the club has to identify what makes for a successful side then plan the list and recruit accordingly.imo this has not been done in millers time. the last to do it was probably northey but clearly swooper didnt have enougth quality on his list. it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if he stayed.

Ironic comment really saying that Swooper made a difference despite us not having the quality that year.
It takes a combination of both to be successful. Good players AND good coaching.

I guess the frustrating thing is that why the club continues to run out players such as Tivendale, Hyde and Bowden (as much as I hate to say it) it means that three kids miss out at playing and improving at the highest level. Names like Polo, Casserly, Collins, Hughes, Riewoldt, Graham, Collard, Rance and JON are are very much starved of opportunity.
We are not going play finals football in 2008, so why not see if we can find a few players in amongst this bunch that regularly miss a senior game, if they play and are not up to it well at least they got an opportunity to shine.

Get over yourself momentai. People who are 'uncompromising' never win. A balanced approach is what's needed, not this armchair crap.
We have won 3 games from 11 starts. We aren't playing finals again. We are about to go to 18 pts and Gold C and W Sydney and going to take the majority of the 1st round picks over the next two years.

So we lose eligibility for a 1st rd priority pick and therefore after this year, won't get anything in the top 14 or 15 before 2011.

Bowden and the others mentioned, Hughes, Hyde. Tivendale. Newman. Mcmahon. Johnson. Pettifer etc have had their chances and will not get any better. So please explain to us all... What is unbalanced about trading for improved draft picks.

You don't trade away your heart and soul. Think of the joy, frustration, laughs, sheer exhilaration (and a host of other emotions) Richo has given us. He's kept us turning up each week, even optimistic, through all these bad times. He must also be the most popular player in the league, it seems, among other teams and their supporters. Wouldn't swap him for a flag.

I'd swap.
No one is suggesting we trade Richo, well certainly not me anyway. Any one else over 23 should be a possibility.

as far as the nd selections alone go, i think we have been much more astute in the last 2 yrs.

the problem is with so many glass half full types on the list we are not useing enough nd picks.
just 3 last yr mind boggling.
can anyone actually remember the last time we actually went out of our way and planned to trade into draft picks. and dont say ottens he walked out and forced a trade onto us.

the trouble with the rfc and its supporters is they have little faith in the draft process, and who can blame them. we have had our fingers burnt way to often but we have burnt them ourselves theres no one else to blame but ourselves.

i have continually said get the best people in charge of list management and recruiting. fix these areas and you will see improvement.

Agree Clawster. Trade picks are gold.

Well it is 2008 not 2007.

So it is. Your point being? I said he's been injured quite a bit of late. Of late is a term that can trangress the date that signifies a new year. Injured after Rd 10 this year. Played injured quite a bit of the last half of last year. Just pointing out that he has had his fair share of injuries. Unsure why this comment is such an issue for you.
