Half way through OUR season and having been an eye witness to most of our games, several things stand out.
We have lacked leadership throughout the season both on the field and at match committee. On the field Kane as skipper and Newman as one vice capt have been abject failures in imposing themselves on any but the weakest opponents.
Ditto our match committee which has consistently failed to recognise that anything less than a courageous effort should warrant time at Coburg. Instead we have stuck with second raters and the fact that Cotch is the only new player that we have so far introduced at AFL level is.. well it is pathetic.
In my opinion we need to have a thorough cleanout at years end (of both the list and the match committee) and I would favour taking up to 6-7 rookies and leaving one or two spots on say a 36/37 player list to reward those who do well, as and when the need arises.

Bowden, been great but time to send him away maybe for a second rounder;
Hughes, may be worth a third rounder to Port Adelaide?;
Hyde, time to go maybe he could be part of a trade to Subiaco for Warnock;
Mcmahon, bad choice by Terry but may have some currency although we will be subsidizing any move as he was never worth what we agreed to pay;
Newman, been solid but should be sent away to help us upgrade a pick;
Pattison, Could also be part of a trade to Freo for Warnoch;
Pettifer, may be worth something to the Saints?
Tuck may be worth something to the Hawks?
This may be optimistic but if we went into the trade week with 5 24 40 56 and 72, then
maybe the Bulldogs or the Pies (who wont beat the Cats again this year,) might take Bowden and Pick 40 for a late first rounder?
Hughes to Port for say pick 41 ontraded with Pattison and Hyde for Warnock .
Pick 5 with Mcmahon and Newman plus $, to Ess for pick 2.
Pettifer to the Saints for a mid 20's pick,
Tuck to the Hawks for a Bailey, Thorp or Dowler.
Delisted
Casserly, Graham, Johnson, Tivendale, plus Cartledge, Howatt and Sylvester. Traded Bowden, Hyde, Mcmahon, Newman, Pattison, Pettifer and Tuck.
New
Bailey Dowler or Thorp, plus Warnock and Collard plus D/p 2, 14, 24, 25 and 56.
38 players less 10 plus 8 plus 1 in the PSD and 1 Vet plus 6 rookies, with one space left on the mainlist for a rookie promotion.
Anyone who doesn't want to take Cousins in the PSD, SHOULD HE BE FIT AND AVAILABLE, seriously needs to ask who is likely to be around who could provide more leadership and also question whether they have been brainwashed by our continually poor performance, to have come to expect only more of the same.
