Our new rookies

Indeed the perfect Rookie

Remember the best ruckman IMHO in years was a rookie at WC

Agree.

Browne just seems like the perfect rookie type. I'm not sure who mentioned this, I have a suspicion it was Phantom ( :help), but I heard too that he tested okay for V02 max. If that's the case he certainly will loose some weight and increase his cardio.

However once he does that he will put some back on, muscle wise.

I'm looking forward to watching his development.

good project player by the looks

I like that youtube leads this video onto one of Hilary Duff & the German video. ;)

We had a fair beef-up in the midfield this year: Thomson, Hislop, Cousins and Nahas.

I'm willing to tip Nahas will be the first rookie upgraded and will play a few games this year.

He is a big big lad...anyone who was at training wouldve seen how big he is!

he is mate. on the video of francis jackson talking about the rookies, he talked about how big browne hasnt' really done any proper weight training as a junior. hence i think is body composition isn't ideal at the moment. but with the proper training & diet in the hands of our trainers and dietitians, he would be able to lose some of the weight and turn it into solid muscle. certainly has time on his side.

Good picks. All fill needs. If any of them make it they improve the list in a weaker area.

Have no problems with the four selected. I think Nahas will improve very quickly trying at the elite level.

All true, just to put into perspective how big Browne is though, a few highlights...

- Dawson Simpson was the biggest kid to ever go through the draft camp at that stage. (205.9cm and 104kgs)
- Sandilands didn't go through the Draft Camp (he just did a state screening, he was a rookie not a National Draft player)
- Sandilands is 211cm and 123kg. A absolute freak and despite rucks getting bigger his likes will rarely be seen i suggest. He was 211cm and 111kgs when elevated.
- Max Bailey is 206cm, 104kg...he was 206cm, 93kg when recruited.
- Andrew Browne is 205cm and 105kgs
- Christian Bock is 205cm and 82kgs
- Blake McGrath is 208cm and 85kgs

Browne is a monster anyway you look at it. It's unlikely he will get much taller, though anything is possible with kids, but exceptionally tall rucks tend to have grown early and stopped by the time they are recruited.

What will be really interesting, is the muscle mass/weight he carries after a few years in the system. He might cut down to increase endurance, he might stay at the same weight and increase it like sandilands did. Sandilands get's away with it with his extra 6cm, Browne endurance needs improving. However if he puts on muscle mass he will increase his weight like Bailey did who was already very strong.

It will be interesting to see.

Best of all he's a saucehead, can't have too many of them.

Will watch with interest to see whether Nahas can make it in the big show, have a sneaking suspicion he will have an impact at some time. Don't bulk up kid, just get quicker and quicker.

Good to have a big ruck in Browne on the rookie list to push Graham, sweet lord. Would rather another ruck on the rookie list instead of Sylvester with Rance coming on

i sort of agree pooper.you know that last pick we pased on i would have taken another ruckman jacobs and god forbid aged 20 i think. or the lad from tassie an onballer cant think of his name,
for goal kicking rover types there was a lad from south freo cant think ofhis name either p something i think. one thing we did was address stucture and needs to a degree.

You've clearly been watching them closely Claw. Haaaaargh, Haaaaaargh, Haaaaaargh! That is the way that Greg Beck used to recruit. I reckon we'll pick that HFF with pick 9, can't think of his name. P something I think......

sheesh if its good enough for the great gb its good enough for me.
and ya know its funny im surprised some thing like this has not happened on drafdt day. gb in cohoots with df - the richmond footy club take player number 4437899752231756398 er ah thingamebob shiiite his name starts with p. :hihi

oh and no i havent been wayching the buggers at all well hardly. thats the problem in this regard i am greg beck

Nahas - A lock to play at sometime this year I would reckon. Saw him at Pt Melb on the tube a few times and he looked the goods. Lively, skilled and even a bit "in your face" - could be a bargain.

Gourdis - I guess there were reasons he was delisted in the first place, but would have been a shame to see him go. A perfect fit for the rookie list, with the "upside" factor that may turn him into something big.

Browne - Will put big Angus on notice at least. Worth a punt and may develop into a handy ruck. Would think with his size he would be able to handle Coburg seniors straight away - experience playing against men rather than juniors could see him come on quickly.

Gilligan - Just about every club has a small indigenous forward (Rioli, Stokes, Betts, Thomas, Campbell, Davey (x2), Wona, etc etc), so why not us? A hit or miss maybe, but again the perfect rookie fit.

No reason to think that at least two of these may turn out to be long term RFC players. All up, these four round out what looks to have been a fairly useful recruiting campaign, with, IMO, the list now looking to be much more balanced and having more depth to it than we have seen in years.

Well done to the recruiting staff and roll on 2009.

I'm on his bandwagon CC.

Just needs a good nickname.
A monster who can even kick a bit. Unbelievitable!

There used to be a real toughnut in my neighbourhood when I was a kid who was always known as "Ginger" Brown. I reckon "Big Ginger" sounds good for Andrew Browne.

Of a man named leroy brown

Now leroy more than trouble
You see he stand bout six foot four
All the downtown ladies call him treetop lover
All the mens just call him sir

And its bad, bad leroy brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old king kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Now leroy he a gambler
And he like his fancy clothes
And he like to wave his diamond rings
In front of everybodys nose
He got a custom continental
He got an eldorado too
He got a 32 gun in his pocket for fun
He got a razor in his shoe

And its bad, bad leroy brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old king kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog

Well friday bout a week ago
Leroy shootin dice
And at the edge of the bar
Sat a girl named doris
And ooh that girl looked nice
Well he cast his eyes upon her
And the trouble soon began
And leroy brown learned a lesson
bout messin with the wife of a jealous man

And its bad, bad leroy brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
Badder than old king kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog,

Well the two men took to fightin
And when they pulled them from the floor
Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle
With a couple of pieces gone

And its bad, bad leroy brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old king kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog
