No sorry this is not another sack the coach thread.

Was listening to a commentary on the weekend and Robert Walls asked Michael Voss of all his ex team mates who he thought would make a good AFL Coach.

Voss responded with two names, the first one of which I missed, but he second one was Craig McCrae. Said he had no doubt both these players would make great coaches.

Made me think maybe we shoud look to elevate McCrae to an assistant role next year and start grooming him as a potential future coach.

These are the sort of people we need around Tigerland in the future.

No doing a great job with the young look at Edwards Connors Riewoldt King etc all coming on this year maybe instead of looking for a Development manager elevate McRae to the roll & bring in if we could manage it a Buckley, Riccutio or Archer to work under him.

Heard him on sen, speaks open and honest and knows players weakness and strengh's, reminds me of a Mark Williams type of coach.

In my opinion the next best coach in waiting is Guy McKenna. Somehow I think he will get overlooked by Melbourne because they seem to recruit average coaches even though daniher wasn't too bad.

My theory on good coaches is that 'most' not all but most successful coaches were backmen in Premiership teams that had played under the great coaches. these guys seem to have to analyse the game more and are generally not the most talented blokes but the ones that have to work their butts off to extract the most out of themselves. McKenna will potentially be the next Worsfold. At the moment Worsfold is the only coach in the AFL to come out from Malthouse's successful Weagles era. IMO champion players do not necessarily make great coaches because they use natural talent and are more likely to be more interested in themselves. There are exceptions to the rule but there are more flops than successes.

Anyway if McKenna is still on the market and Wallet hasn't produced the goods in the next 2 years and we are on the market Guy Mckenna for me. Comes from a winning culture and was as hard nosed as Worsfold. A tough half back flanker.

He is also a teacher isn't he, might make him better at getting his message across and dealing with young guys.
