Our 'Premiership Clock'

8-ball i like ya thinking.A lot of things can go wrong in a season but if these things happened we mite do alright next year.
1. The draw.a favourable draw can make a huge difference. This year we were derailed right from the start. It took us a long time to get the confidence back.
2.Browny fit and firing. We're playing alright now without him,but when he's on fire coaches would find it almost impossible to match up on him.
3.Obviously injuries, but to get some of our already sidelined stars back and fit.
4.Jon.cass,hughes,limbach and mcguane to start getting games putting more pressure on blokes to keep their spots.
5.Hartigan to have an injury free run, to get his disposal/decision making spot on.I think he could really add some dash similiar to rainsy out of the backline.Gee imagine two of them doing it.
6.Richo/browny/shultz in the forward line at the same time all fit and in good form. I reckon shultzy is combining better with rich the more they play together.Add petts tambo/krack or delidio and it could end up being one of the most potent forward lines in the comp.
7.If we got polak and he held down chb.
8.cogs/newy to get back and add some depth to the midfield,Every good team needs 6-8 blokes they can rotate thru the midfield.

Next year will be an interesting year. I see it as another chance to get some games into the kids, play a bit of finals and harden the boys up for a tilt at 08 and 09.

Razor and Tango i ask you this - do you think Sydneys premiership midfield that was built around the Kirk and Bolton types is a super talented group? I dont. They were hard disiplined players willing to give 100% at every contest...... This year we can hardly go by the stats on our clearances considering - Cogs and Browny played 1/2 the year, Lids, Tambling, Meyer, Raines, Polo hardly were let loose in the middle and Foley was playin 80minutes....Id be interested to know what our clearances are like at the end of 2007 and 2008 with a midfield of Lids, Bling, Polo, Coughlan, Tuck, Foley, Meyer, Polo, Sugar, Brown, Newman, Howat, White etc i would be very suprised if we werent in the top 6 in the league.

Also Razor if you think Nathan Browns days are done and dusted you're a complete naive moron! :)

I think you are really underrating the Sydney midfield, 8ball. There midfield IS super talented... everyone is always lauding the West Coast midfield but Sydney's blokes match it with them every time.

Please, anyone feel free to show me the last side who made a serious tilt for a flag with a midfield which ranked 16th (or last for earlier years) in clearances?

...and who's no1?

Sydney, the premiers of course.

No coincidence there ToO. ;)

They have a range of very consistent ball winners and as a result the Swans are able to enact a strategy which relies around their superior ball winning ability. That speaks for itself IMO...and as we saw last year and will probably see again this year, ball winning ability takes you a long way at the business end of the season.

We ranked last 8ball...behind every other midfield in the comp. Brown has played very little in the midfield since his arrival, so he can be almost entirely discounted from your argument. That leaves half a season less from Coughlan than we might have had...but where did we rank before his injury? In the same place.

I'll be very surprised if we are top-10 next year...which doesn't make you a flag contender.

I said his days in midfield are pretty much over - as are Akermanis' - you probably ought to read more closely before you throw aspersions around. Brown will be 29 next season and even the majority of hardened, 80+ minutes a game midfielders start passing their prime at the point he's now reached...and Brown was never an onballer who could spend long periods there...what little time he could play there will diminish even further in the coming years. Similarly, Akermanis spent almost no time in midfield this year, despite the Lions being very depleted in that area.
