This has been something that ive been thinking about for ages. It is something that doesnt really have a correct answer, however its something that is in my brain and i want you guys to have your say. Our 'Premiership Clock' - when will we win our next flag ...and what are the reasons behind it. Here is my opinion on the matter:
* It has been said that our premiership chances are probably in 4-6yrs. Why is this? By then we will not have key players in Richo, Brown, Johnson, Simmonds and Joel Bowden. Im staggered to think we are this far away with our current list. How and who are we going to have to replace a Champion CHF, an absolute gun player in Brown, our silky skipper, Simmonds (will patto be as good?) and a gun footballer in Joel Bowden. So we are going to need to find players to fill those voids for 5yrs time...its a big ask.
* If we were to pick up an Akermanis could a forward line of:
HF: Akermanis Richardson Pettifer
FF: Brown Schulz Krakouer/Hughes
....not get us to a grand final?? Again id be staggered if it couldnt.
* In 2yrs our core group of player will be our young guns in Deledio, Raines, Tambling, Meyer, Polo, Thursfield etc with the senior players the same with the addition of COughlan, Newman, Pat Bowden etc
= A mix of Youth and Senior players is essential for success.
* A 2007 side that looks like:
FB: White Thursfield Newman
HB: Raines J.Bowden P.Bowden
C: Deledio Coughlan Tambling
HF: Akermanis Richo Pettifer
FF: Brown Schulz Krakouer/Hughes
R: Simmonds, Tuck, Johnson

olo, Foley, Pattison, Meyer etc
To me would be super competitive. It lack probably another Key Defender...but whatabout Schulz going to CHB and Hughes to Full Forward? (dont hit me ToO!) I keep thinking about last years Grand Finalists and believe a side like the one above could seriously match it with either of those teams. Right now that side could match it with an Adelaide, WC, Bullies, Freo but might struggle againt a Melboure and Saints side....
- Ive thrown in Aker for the fact that i beleive we should get him. In that side he could be the type of player that takes a side from being 6-8th to top 4. THats been well publisized.
- Is that side not as good as Freo's who are now flag favourites?
- we have three players in Newman, White and Raines capable of taking the oppostions best small forward - that something we havent had.
- A forward line with the smalls Aker, Brown, Pettifer and Krakouer and talls in Richo, Schulz, Simmonds, hughes - what team has a defence capapble of stopping that?
* THis is all just been in my head and i just want to know why ppl think we are that far away? Watabout in 2yrs...or 3max..... Are our senior guys not good enough? Do we need more kids who in turn will take another cpl of years to come on...i just think we could be a few turns away from success...perhaps a gun KP defender and a touch of class in an Akermanis......one more batch of kids and the development of JON, Casserly and Hughes...and who knows?
