Our youngsters are better than those of the hawks

why is jury out on Franklin ? (my eyes can see a Carey in the making)

I think Franklin is overrated!! he has great skills, but i dont think sharpest tool in the shed!!! I think he'll be a good player for them, but not a great one

From what I can see the difference between the kids that Hawthorn have got and those of the mighty Tigers are that Hawthorn drafted bigger bodied kids who could just about step up to AFL standard immediately, whereas the Tiges got kids who weren't as big but were skillful and quick.

The obvious reason for this is that Clarkson has a 2 year deal and Terry has a 5 year deal. We can afford to play the kids in the seconds and get them built up and used to playing against men whereas Hawthorn can't.

That said I reckon that Roughead will be a superstar whereas Franklin reminds me of Ray Hall without the defensive skills :hihi :hihi

The ONLY player with a ready-made AFL physique at hawthorn is Jordan Lewis. Franklin, Roughead, Little, Young, Dawson, Murphy and Little are all as skinny as rakes.

Compared to where they will end up they are! Plus everyone knows that KPPs take longer to develop them Midfielders and most of Hawks picks are KPPs. In fact at the time it was said that he was very brave going for KPP's over Midfielders on such a short contract.

I don't think Hawthorn's picks are ready made players. Roughead and Franklin have being playing Key positions and their bodies aren't even nearly up to it yet, but still playing out of their weight division. Young, Thurgood, Little, Murphy, Dawson all have extremely light frames, its only Lewis that is ready made to play. Franklin is particular is very skinny, he's just taller than the other draft picks.

And Carey was a sharp tool? He was/is a tool certainly but I don't think the first pre-requisite for outstanding sporting achievement is a mind like a steel trap.

Just happy cheer our players kick golden. We'll leave the meeting of flesh to the Mayflowers.

there is no doubt about HFC being ahead of us as far as KPP go, however we are ahead with quality, skilled mids
they desperately needed talls - as do we longer term
but we desperately needed fast, skillfull mids - hence why we went small and they went tall

the trick is how quickly TW can get our kids up and firing whilst our aging talls are still around, if this happens together we will be very competitive, if it takes longer than 2 years we may struggle and Hawks may jump ahead

both teams were in similar positions but Hawks went tall first and we went small, hawks also have the luxary of a second crack this year which should prove to be a great strategy

RFC needed some short term success to stem the tide, arest the financial position and get some stability, the legacy of our past unfortunately and this has maybe set us back a year from the hawks

The real test is who gets their players up the quickest - TW or AC ill back terry
