P.Bowden

he is good at what he does, loose man, 3rd defender
whilst he suits our playing style ATM, he will not be in our next premiership team IMO
until then he is contributing

I really thought Patrick would offer very little and was still unconvinced through his early season 'good form' up forward because the same ol' PB traits were still evident. I must say that the traits have become less prevalent as the season has gone on and I have actually been impressed by how clean and quick and decisive his ball use has been in 'hot' situations in the backline.

Was at the Brisbane game and I think he had nine contested possessions in the first quarter and 4 or 5 contested marks backing into packs or floating across packs.

Still a hell of a lot of improvement left in him. Joel has become a lot hader these last three years (apparently played with a broken cheekbone for 3 quarters against Weagles) and if PB follows the same path, he has the skills. What he needs to improve on is his physical and mental toughness - he has the skills and footy smarts. Here's hoping!

I cant see why people have been critical of PB,of course he has his faults but he did not come to the club with a James Hird reputation an if we traded for him or not we would have had the same list except for him as Whitey still would have been picked up an we would not have had a pick in the Pre season draft.
1 has had his best year of AFL
2 Adds run an versatility
3 Sticks to the game plan of the day very well
4 Bit like Joel has had to pick up players a bit out of his depth but still battled manfully, also know for a fact that only due to injuries to key backman, PB would have played a much more attacking role this season
5 Marking an delivery accross half back has added a lot to our defence

Dont be surprised to see PB up there in our goal kicking next year either.

If he can mature like his older brother has, he could be a chance to hold down a key defensive position.

If he bulks up he may be able to match it one on one with the bigger forwards.

If he can be taught to be more defensively minded, he may be a chance.

A lot of if's. He needs to bulk up but that could slow him down too much, would be great if he could turn into a FB though. I think TW will use him more for his creativity and run out of the back line
how much more maturing has he got hes 26 ffs an old man in footy terms. and at this age do you really think hes going to bulk up anymore. anyway can you tell me where hes going to find the ticker to take on physical opponents.

Pat's just turned 25 last month.

There's no doubt the skills are there and there were some incredible signs of improvent last year. Admitedly there are some things he can still work on. Physicality, tackling & 1%s being the most obvious.

Considering Joel's 28, let's hope that Patrick can continue his improvement in the next three years as Joel has.

Interesting Bowden senior said in a recent interview that he always saw Patrick as a late developer. let's hope it's true.

Who would have thought 3 years ago Joel would be named AA CHB???
You never know he could end up as a KPP. :don't know

Got to say I am will TOO Claw. The doggies are still walking around wondering who the hell we bodyswapped for their Patrick Bowden. His improvement this year over the previous couple was marked. If, particularly with his brother helping him, he can continue to improve on this year's effort then he will be a very valuable player. With the Bowden's it doesn't seem to be a case of ability but rather understanding. They seem to be able to continue to improve regardless of their age. Joel is still improving in my opinion as RFC gets more demanding of him not less. It would be nice to see Patrick's improvement levels track against Joel's - which is possible.

He adds a bit of excitement too. I don't know about you but I go to the footy for entertainment.

...oh, and because I can't help it, it's some kind of addiction :)

Though initially sceptical about Patrick's value when the trade was done, I saw elements of the way Paul Roos played CHB in Patrick's play this season. Let develop that spot for his own.

Let the graph keep ascending in 07!

the pick the we traded to the bullies for patrick was about 56 and they took michael west with that pick.he was the 195 cm queenslander who did his knee during the u18 aust championships. he may be a good aquistion for them or flop, but we have already a guarenteed 6 year player in patrick so we have done well out of the deal.
