how did you all think he went in his first game? i personally feel he adds a fair bit to the side. he is another good option up the ground and can drop back to fill the hole and take some grabs (10 marks). 22 touches, not bad for his first game. he shows a lot of promise, keep up the good work Pat

His whole career has been to show promise, but hasnt delivered.
Better of giving Humm from West coast a go than this hack!!!

he does show promise, but he wasnt really given a chance at the dogs... didnt get many games, he was dropped as soon as he failed. bit harsh i reckon. people like you should stop judging new players in our side so harshly. dont base ur decision on what he was like at the dogs, its a different case now.

Arguably our 2nd best player, on the night.

How we choose to use that talent is our problem.

imo has talent like his brother. the problem being hes been in the system for long enough i think we have seen the best of both bowdens and their best has constantly been proved to be not good enough.

is probably the least accountable footballer ive ever seen....looks good when things are going our way but his opponent will ultimately kill us when things are going their way..... should play deeper to goal where his lack of accountability wont be as badly exposed as it does up the ground or in the backline to learn how to mark an opponent.

I think he is extremely un accountable. For a guy who is roughly 190 odd cms he doesnt or didnt really take a contested mark. I just think you should throw the stat book out the window sometimes. He got a tonne of cheap possesions. He lined up at CHF but he has the mentality of a HHF. For me he is a slow, unaccountable, lazy HFF. He will pinch in with 10 kicks a couple of marks and maybe a goal or two but for me he is clearly not the answer.

Disagree he has delivered on a number of occassions for the Doggies and will also for the Tigers.

As for your statement about Humm - do you realise it can be deprimental to a young player's total career if he is thrown in against the big boys of AFL before he is mentally or physically capable of handling it! For Humm and the other young'uns at Tigerland I hope TW and co bring them along in their individual own time - the young player through his actions and demeanor will tell TW when he is ready for the big time.

Like you diggler I feel the sooner the better but we have to give those young footballers time to find their feet. Remember TW took over the Doggies in 1996 - his recruitment of young footballers through the years he was there is only now (2006) starting to bear fruit. Why? Because they were promoted to the big time when they could handle it - then they were given 2 to 3 years to in the big time to learn their trade - now with 40 to 70 games under their respective belts they are making their mark on the competition - the RFC will not be doing this until 2008/9 with the young players we have now because -
a) They are not mentally and physically ready for AFL football
b) Once they are they will need 30 to 60 games under their belts to start to produce the goods consistently.

My opinion only.....

RT, Humm is not a "young'un". As I understand it he is the oldest rookie on any teams rookie list.

he is a squib like his brother
unaccountable, unreliable and inconsistent

gee if he plays all 22 games he may win our B&F like his brother

Point taken - how can I side step it? - He is young in the number of games he has played AFL - he is young in that he is new to TW's game plan - hang on there was no game plan last Friday night - nah ya got me cornered - shoot me you win!.... ;) your trophy :cupgold

Promising debut but along way to go before he makes it.No doubt he has ability.

A very fair and reasonable assessment there JR. He has the ability but needs to reduce the stupid errors like kicking across the ground to Robert Murphy when he could have kicked to the danger zone 15m out from goal. At least he got a bit of it unlike many others who shall remain nameless...........Pattison, Schulz, Tambling, Gaspar......

getting a bit of it means nothing in today's game Jayfox

The two young guys you listed hardly had any game time.

Shultz/*smile* had plenty of game time

deliver the ball to the bowdens like the dogs did to their forwards and the results would be better on more occasions. Friday night, the dogs kicked goals from any possible angle.

Look, I don't think that skill is a problem for either Bowden. At times they both have exquisite skills but I believe that they mentally let themselves down on occasion and that is when they turn the ball over. I still think that Patrick Bowden could be a handy player for us, especially seeing as he cost us virtually nothing, but he needs to be played up forward where he can finish rather than on a wing where he needs to be accountable defensively as well as concentrating on his own game.
