Pattison

took a great mark in the last quater....a big CHF style pack mark....very encouraging.....be lovely when he turns around to see the Big Clever on the lead out of the square in the future!

He'll probably be a bit more decisive when a definite option is available when he looks up, something that seemed to be a problem for all our defenders on Sunday. I'd prefer that he holds the ball (and look indecisive) when he doesn't see a suitable option rather than bomb away and hand the ball back to the opposition.

Yep, spot on .... apart from Staff early we had no one to kick to. We missed Richo on Sunday.

However, Patto was only 40 out when he stuttered and kicked a half kick to the top of the square. Should have drilled it.

I reckon with patto a lot of the bagging he gets, unfair in my book, is based on appearances rather than results or deeds.  Not just his pace which I've mentioned, but also his awareness and decsion making.  A few times on sunday, he waited for an option in heavy traffic and got if off just before getting nailed.  Gave the appearance of being tentative but got the result.  On the evidence, seems smart, aware, hardworking, and not slow.

Maybe he could be in the Lade mould? Ungainly looking but smart and effective with heart.

What the HELL were you guy's watching on the weekend.Patto is slower than Cliff Young, can't kick & worries the sh*t out of me.Alright i know he's young & learning but big men never get faster & his kicking is terrible. Sorry, he's going to struggle!!

Daveyboy you are incorrect, how many times do I have to say it, HE IS NOT SLOW.  He isn't quick, but he is not slow.  Draft camp data, as well as my own viewing of his performances to date, back this up.  HE IS NOT AARON DAVEY.  he is 19 and 198cm FFS from RFC site.  Its fair dinkum like talking to a brick wall around here.

Kicking needs work yes, to say can't kick is too harsh.  Can't beleive how people expect a big bloke to be Carl dietrich after 10 games.

What I saw on Sunday was a bloke appear in the backline after being in the forward line moments earlier, take a great contested mark, use the ball reasonably well in heavy traffic, and not get caught.  What more could you ask?

I suppose you reckon Rodan is fast?

he also seems to enjoy a bit of old fashioned hip and shoulder. with more experience he could really hurt his opposition and in more ways than one.

I think when it comes to his kicking he,s actually trying too much to get all things right so it actually lands on his foot the way it should.
In other words his action is very robotic with no penetration on impact. What he must do is actually relax his whole body.
Find the best runup for himself and IMO with his Kicking style and his size i would only do no more than 7 steps max.

tigerdave, this is a very good post just after the Fremantle game last year when I had my doubt's about Patto.

The fastest runners in the world peak in their mid to late 20s, so you can/do get faster with age.  Pattison is young, he will definitely get stronger, and key positions mature later due to having to build their bodies.  Much too early to write him off.  We have t do something about our forward line even though Pattison didnt do much tonight.

Cheers

dave, do you remeber what guys like Cox, White and Lade looked like when they were 19?

Jake, I hope i'm wrong for the sake of the Tige's.Time will tell!

We have to give him time, after all everybody else has been given plenty of time to show what talent they have.

Minson and Jamar have also been branded as completely hopeless on here. People know ruckmen take longer but don't seem to be able to put that knowledg into practice.

Disco, I do remember those boy's when they first started. The difference being they have teriffic skills by foot, correct me if i'm wrong.I hate bagging players,I just think he may struggle at this level!

dave, it's easy to forget, but all those guys were pathetic kicks early in their careers. Sir Les's errors to disposals is about 75% better than any of them.

I agree Pattison can struggle at times with his kicking, but he's also showed that he can he can kick it a long way and hit targets on the move. He'll get more consistent with this as all big guys do as his career progresses.

Edit: you can throw Troy Simmonds in as another big guy whose kicking sucked early in his career.
