Is it just me or is Paul Rois a dominating patronising jerk on league teams. His idea of involving the other panelists is to say their name, Derm, in mid spout. Or ask a rhetorical question Jonno?
No doubt a very good coach. But something about his personality irks me. His sense of superiority, perhaps?

On the breakfast show they were talking about how Bolton has had to develop the blues defensively, along the same lines as Roos did at Melb, to stop the blowouts. Not pretty football etc but effective. And they were raving about the ability of Roos to turn Melb around, that he added steel etc and stopped the blowouts. Roos ave losing margin in his first year at Melb was 36Pts, in his last year it was 33.5Pts - a massive 2.5Pts difference.
Yes, he lost less games in Year 3 against Year 1, but he lost 8 of his last 13 games. And that was with some young talent. Not sure he is the coaching messiah many think he is.

gifted a great swans team who coached themselves to a flag .....he was just along for the ride
became a footy commentator .................and all of a sudden he was the magic man
melb fell for it .and bang 1.2 mill a year FOR 3 YEARS to 'build a team' .......................really!!!!

back the safety of the hindsight club .........................AFL commentators .....and all of a sudden he is a genius coach again ...if this was the case ...david FKN king would be the coach of the century!!! NOT

I think it's 20 plus seasons of Roos and Lyon coaching for just the 1 flag , been some pretty good lists at there disposal in that time.

Lyon has had pretty average cattle at both St Kilda & Freo. Yes, some good top end, but in 2009 when they lost to the Cats (who were arguably at their all-time best list) Lyon had the following guns in his side:
Sam Gilbert
Andrew McQualter
Zac Dawson

Clint Jones
Raph Clarke
Our current bottom 6 is arguably better than these guys. Imagine how many pages Sam Gilbert would have on PRE?
He also had Jason Blake/Jason Gram/Michael Gardiner/Steven King/Schneider/Dempster in his side - all no better than decent B grade players.
To lose to an all-time great side by 12 points (incl a goal on the siren) is IMO one of the great coaching feats.
Look at some of the hacks he has had to play with at Freo in the 2013 GF's - Dawson/Clarke/Crowley/De Boer/Duffield/Mayne/Mzungu/Pearce/Spurr/Suban/Sutcliffe - and they lost by 15 pts to a Hawks side at the start of their 3-peat.
Lyon is a great coach, he has played the cards he has had at his disposal. Plays most on a break IMO.
Got to disagree with you there MDJ, I don't think a coach that hasn't coached a flag deserves to be called great, there no doubt he has done some very good stuff, though the Freo game style has been as poor as any to watch, in saying that it's not there job to be pretty , it's to win.MD Jazz said:
All Premiership teams have role players some even have C graders, the one thing about Lyons teams is he had the time to build a premiership flag, he came up short and left the Saints needing a rebuild, he hasn't jumped ship on the Dockers but he is now gone back to the rebuild, he has some very good talent at his disposal and at the end of this 5 year contract I think will be able to judge if he is either a very good coach or truly a great coach.

He had the time to build a premiership list?? He coached for 5 years at the saints? Made 2 GF's. Got them to GF in his 3rd year.
