I was at the Norwood-Eagles game at Norwood Oval on Friday night and braved the cold despite being a Glenelg supporter. I was most unimpressed with this player, he looked slow, uncoordinated and did not seem to get all that much of the footy, adn when he did did not seem to dfo all that much with them. He had one or two effective hitouts but other than that I dont see the excitement in this player. He was playing on a much more experienced and big bodied player in Lindsay who dominated the ruck but I dont see your hype with this guy.

Let me know of any other players from that game you would be interested in getting an opinion about.

Another thing I noticed from that game was how much more I enjoyed watching SANFL football than AFL. Firstly the game was not over umpired which was the main thing I took out of the game, no ridiculous touchy deliberate out of bounds calls, not callign ridiculously soft free kicks and not as quick to pin holding the balls. The AFL game is sadly over officiated and is somethign that really needs tobe looked at.

Other aspects I really enjoyed, seeing contested football, no loose men in defence and 25 metre penalties instead of 50. All these aspects made it a much more enjoyable spectacle to watch. No wonder crowds are returning ot SANFL.

In other words Shawy are you saying he is a ###

Thanks Shawry.

It would be a fair indication that Meeson isn't blossoming in SA.
Lindsay is probably the best mature aged ruckman going around in the SANFL today, so for Meeson to be beaten by him is no disgrace, but from what you posted it would seem that he received a shellacking.

Yep. At the 2004 draft Meeson was well ahead of Maric. Many of us here thought the only thing Maric had going for him was his competitiveness. Meeson definately had the better skill & agility.
At the start of this season they were about par, but as the season has progressed Maric has received opportunity with the Crows and pushed ahead of him.

PS: I must agree with you on the state of football viewing.
Just as you prefer watching the SANFL over AFL, I too reckon that this last weekend at the U18s has killed anything the AFL has to offer.
There are a few PREnders I've spoken to who also regularly attend & prefer watching Coburg.

I reckon AFL footy has lost alot by not having the ressies as curtain-raisers before the game.

yes soft free kicks are a bit annoying. The deliberate boundary rule is a good rule but interpreted poorly by idiots and administered by a wanker.

As for meeson, the big guys don't develop like the smaller guys.

Give him time.

I actually believe there's room for a hypothesis about a strong negative correlation between height and IQ.

Agree about some of the points raised thus far.

The SANFL 25 mtr rule makes good sense. Should be used in the AFL for like back chatting etc. 50 meters is too harsh.

I thought the U 18s was fantastic. Great contests and good umpiring. Cleearly less people watching, more common sense and less over umpiring.

I think the deliberate OOB is a disgrace and the amount of touchy in the backs etc is a joke. Really annoys me.

Clearly you are a very tall man! :hihi

Cam Wood of Brisbane is another of your "strong stable" Phantom that is taking a fair amount of time to find something - anything! I don't offer that as a form of ridicule, but an acknowledgement that selecting talls carries with it a higher degree of luck than your usual midfielders. There have been more openings in the Brisbane side than Mr Beattie's front and back benches, so like Meeson, he hasn't exactly been waiting for opportunities either.

Makes what we are getting out of Patto so far look like a luxury! :clap

That little Stuart Rioli who played for NT must be very smart then.

I heard Ricky Dalphene found a mistake in Einstein's Theory of Relativity as well.

You're certainly right Pharace.
There is alot more predictability about smalls & mediums over talls.
As said, smalls by 20, mediums by 22, and talls by 24.

One would have thought that pace, agility & skill level would have been the best criteria to pick talls. Meeson & Wood certainly had these over Pattison & Maric.
It would seem confidence & desire to succeed are vital elements that just can't be found in a physical assessment.
But there is still a long way to go.

How did Luke Powell look Shawry?  I played a fair bit of footy with him at Portarlington and he is a great kid.  He was the Eagles' highest vote-getter in the Magary Medal last year as well.

He was reasonably quiet this week, looked ok when he had it though. Eagles are a good side with many quality players like Colville, Ciccolella etc. They had a lapse in the third quarter but was a good team effort hte rest of their game. Norwood had their chances but Nick Lower's (on Port list) shooting at goal cost them in the end, jsut didnt convert their opportunities and Eagles did.

Brent Frewen ex Richmond listed played in the twos but didnt see how he went. Coming off an injury I think.

I watched a SANFL game on ABC2 the other night& was similarly impressed. Centrals & Port it was, well I watched about 2.5 qtrs. of it before dropping off to noddyland. I liked the 25mtr etc & thought that the game was more enjoyable than a lot of the AFL games that have been seen this year. IMHO the Geisch has outlived his stay as Umpires Adviser.
