Get Lethal, get him now. We dont have enough skill in the backline for a start, our midfield has too many unskilled players and our forward line has no pressure, where stuffed.

We need a new backline starting next week, Thursfield gone backwards same with Moore, but Moore can be useful atleast. Bowden gone lazy, I would bring in Rance and Post, we need guys that can mark and kick.

Midfield, Cousins out injured obviously, bring in Thomson and Collins, out sorry to say Tuck.

Forward line not too bad just need some more forward pressure, maybe bring in Hislop to do that job. Play Hughes just to see if he has improved.

Ruck is a concern, Simmonds too small to get the hitouts now, and no good under pressure. Browne not ready yet but atleast crashes in at the hitouts.

We really need Cotchin back and Coughlan would be nice if fit, even Dan Connors.

We still have way too many difficiancies in the list, we have been playing above ourselves and will come back to bite us this year.

My team for next week.

B. White, McGuane, Rance
HB. Post, Moore, Newman
C. Deledio, Thomson, Richardson
HF. Jackson, Shulz, Brown
FF. Morton, Riewoldt, Hislop
Ruck. Simmonds, Foley, Polo.
Int. Tambling, Browne, Collins, Hughes.
i dont know if rance and post are the fit your looking for if your looking for kicking skills. while both boys tick a lot of boxes imo their kicking is average,

This is glaring to me. The kid gets chosen every week without fail and yet he offers nothing. He along with Jackson and McMahon are auto selections. Its mind boggling.
as ajunior edwards biggest assett was his motor big motor spells gut running mid to me.
but like so many of our players while he has one or two good attributes he has chronic deficiency in his game that suggest he may noy make it and secondly certainly excludes him from playing in the midfield or down back.
three real concerns.
1. kicking. its abysmal.its mainly this that has me saying he should not be allowed to play mid or back.
2. body type. hes a stick and he looks like he will always be a stick.to me this means he will have to play outside rather than inside again this excludes him from playing midfield as a ball winner which leads me to #3.
3. ball winning ability. put simply does not get the pill enough.
4. this leaves no other option but forward not quick enough or skilled enough to play here.

if edwards could kick you would plonk him on a wing and let him run all day
.the question i find myself asking does he bring an outstanding attribute or two that enables us to give him a game despite his deficiencies. unfortunately the answer to this is no. not atm and likely never.

i have stayed away from PRE for 2 days to allow my anger to settle and for me to give some considered opinions instead of a knee jerk reaction.

the conclusion i have drawn are simple... Wallace must go. prior to thursday night i never really had a real strong view as to whether or not he should stay after 09, but not anymore. we have a team that puts no defensive pressure on it's opponents. we need a coach who will teach the boys how to harrass, tackle and pressure the opposition

5) Why is Terry Wallace trying to implement a game style that is clearly not suited to the playing group...

i could not agaree more. how could terry get it so wrong? the game style he tries to adopt does not go hand in hand with the cattle we have.

but the fact that Terry Wallace has never showed a capacity to make the really hard decisions,

agree agree.

Polo - he actually shows some guts and determination, no wonder Wallace won't give him a game

whats more is that he was nearly traded last year. staggering.

I was stunned watching it unfold, but I also think the players were equally stunned - they were like rabbits with lights shining into their eyes, they couldn't run, they hesitated, they competed against each other, couldn't take uncontested marks ........... I think it is very hard to change a game "culture" like that once it starts to unravel the way it did.

No need to panic yet, but the test of our true level of intensity, committment, quality etc in our game will be revealed over the next 4 weeks. We need to win 1, if not 2 of those to be back on track. ie how we respond to last night will tell us everything we need to know.

agree. 3 the first 4 goals were from our shocking errors. the other was from a free kick and 50m penalty. this shattered our confidence and made us timid.

But just to find out whether we thought they were so good or whether we were so bad.

i don't think carlton played out of their skin at all. they executed their plans, but their performance wasn't extaordinary. and us? rabbit in the headlights

"average" kicking skills is something we dream of!

i disagree ian4. wallace is trying to implement a game plan that is ideal to the player type he has bought to the club. primarily small light short outside types, unfortunately for us they dont have the skillset to implement and in a lot of cases the footy smarts.
wallaces dilemma is he has no option its pretty hard to go one on one or try to play a long kicking game if you dont have the player types to implement it.
to me this has beenone of wallaces failings a well rounded list and team gives you options when all the eggs are in one basket and it fails your up the creek without a paddle.

I have been following the tigers for nearly 50 years and in that time the only game plan Richmond have ever been successful with is the long kick into the forward line with 2 or 3 big forwards. The last 20 years we have tried the possession game and it just hasn't worked.
I know its predictable but it was better than the s**t served up these days.
Also get some mongrel into the side select King, Connors, Thompson, Hislop and Polo and make the opposition feel they have been in a tough contest even if they do thrash us.

Some fantastic posts in this thread, and most if not all are spot on!!

The most gut wrentching part of it all for us RFC supporters is that we now have to rebuild once again, and wait another 5 years. The scary part of that is will they make the right decision this time in regards to the coach we appoint?? Will they finally start recruiting players that can kick a ball. How hard is to identify young talent and only select players that have disposal skills. I dont care if they can run like the wind and jump tall buildings. I want players that can kick and hit a bloody target. Hawthorn is the prime example. Clarkson told his recruiters he only wants players that have good disposal skills and all the players they have recruited in his time have fallen under that umbrella.

If we seriously asses our list and keep players that will take us to a premiership we aren't left with much.

Cotchin, Morton, Connors, Deledio, Collins, Brown are the only players i can think of that have skills good enough to consistently hit targets.

Jackson, Mcmahon, Bowden, Foley, King, Edwarsds, Simmonds, Mcguane, Tuck, Pattison. *smile*, just add the rest of them to this list. We need another major overhaul of our list and that is going to take another 3 years minimum if done right.

The other major concern for this year is that we have basically gone into the season 3 players short. Pettifer, Polak, Coughlan(lets face he will struggle to make any impact this year if he ever gets on the park).

My other query is Terry said that we got player like Hislop and Thompson to cover our team. To me they sound like top up players. I can understand Geelong and Hawthorn topping up with players but US????

3 things about Cousins that stood out like dog's jewels:

Only one thing stood about Ben Cousin's impact on Richmond last night.

Matty White burst out of a couple of packs at his usual million miles an hour.......and then stopped and looked around.....picked a gap to escape through......and delivered the footy to the Tiger player in the best position.

Maybe Ben has been in Whitey's ear for a few months......and Whitey is listening......and doing.

There is only 3 lockers between Whitey and The Cuz. Let's keep hoping it gets better.

TigerForce said:
In fact, Cuz was the only player who blocked for us.

After 4 years under 1 coach, what does this skill level and mental attitude all show? Pathetic coaching.

Nathan Brown was never taught how to block.

Ask Whitey who was cleaned up in the last quarter because Brownie didn't put a block on.

For the younger players, I question why some are continually included and others excluded.
I'm reticent in naming Edwards, but:
1. He does little or no real damage in the forward line.
2. He doesn't do enough in the midfield.
3. He gets brushed aside ny opposition smalls in defense.
4. And his disposal is nothing special.
Yet he appears to get a regular game. Why?
Their are others for various reasons who seem unfairly to be missing out

Just on Edwards. When he was drafted there were two things that stood out both in his first couple of games and also what his previous coach at north adelaide had said

1. Big Engine
2. Tackling ability (yes even though he is slightly built he actually is a good tackler. IIRC 11 tackles in the SANFL GF in 06 or something to that effect)

The way he is built he is never going to be an inside mid. As far as his disposal goes i think his kicking to the forwards is decent enough, it is when he is kicking across ground it is shaky. As far as im concerned he will never cut it as a small defender, does not have the phyiscal presence to be a small forward. He clearly belongs on a wing. I havent give up on him just yet because he is played out of position.

Another played out of position is tambling. After 5 years his best football has been off half back. Time for him to stay there. As a small forward he just dosent get enough of the ball, and he is not suited to midfield or wing.
