I look at our last 3 trades - Polak, McMahon & Morton - and I don't believe, in hindsight, that any of them have or will do anything for the list that couldn't've been done by existing players or the addition of juniors.

At the time one or two of them look good. In hindsight, well, .........
Yep, the logic on taking kids in the draft versus middle aged players is so simple yet defies so many.

Its like this.

The draft is like a hose connected to the bottom of a corrugated iron tank. The tank has 44 rungs the aim is to keep it full.

There are a couple of holes in the bottom rungs of the tank which is where the draft picks that don't make it fall out.

There are a couple of holes in the middle of the tank where players with chronic injuries and average players with a couple of good season fall out.

There are a couple of holes in the top of the tank where good players with 200 games fall out.

If the hose is running well and there are not to many holes there will be more than a few players like Richo that overflow the tank at the end of great career.

Drafting a 25yo instead of an 18yo is like putting an axe through the middle of the tank, which makes it very bloody difficult for the hose to keep it full.

It always comes back to water conservation

I do get what you are saying BJ, and it has been shown in the past, by richmond and other clubs, that you cannot skip rungs
You have to fill the tank from the bottom up

I really think that this year we should be looking a trading players for picks and having faith in the younger players to step up

I think that we can get either and extra first rounder or two second rounders
If Melbourne get a priority at the end of the first round we should be targeting that pick and then trying to upgrade it into the first round (with a player) or get another second round pick for a player

Who do you suggest is going?
Like the idea of upgrading picks. But in NO circumstances trade our early picks away.

Agree definantely no trading of early picks (unless upgrading)

I don't know of anyone going but have some ideas as to who we should be trading
Still a lot of water to pass under the bridge before trade week though
