Yeah I've had a sore wrist for six months now, thought it was a sprain from goalkeeping at soccer, but its getting better only really slowly. Never got a scan or even had it looked at, guess I should do that. I don't think its scaphoid as it's not sore in the hollow of the thumb, but could be some other weird wrist bone I guess

You're over 50 right? Doubt it's scaphoid related.

You need a CT or MRI.
There are a variety of wrist injuries that are very hard to diagnose without good imaging.
Likely to be managed conservatively regardless at this stage , but you never know.
Scans are not cheap.
Go to a GP who is good and a Tiger..tell him or her you want a scan and want to be bulk billed by radiology if possible.
MRI s are not rebateable from a GP so cost a few hundred.
Plain. X ray usually of no use this late post injury.

Thanks P&T, will try your suggestion out.

All this discussion on scaphoid but all I have seen on official channels is a small fracture in wrist, regardless Shai is training showing no discomfort, (with wrist guard), only a week after injury.
I’m very confident in my source

Yeah probably not baloo, symptoms don't fit. It's a sports injury though.

I took a couple of Under 11 keepers aside for some specialised training, specifically how to dive at an attackers feet to secure the ball. Despite thinking I'd broken every bone and torn every ligament in my body the next day, it turned out I was suffering from "Old bastard forgetting he's an old bastard and being stupid"

yeah sure, i've experienced that as well :) except i injured the wrist six months ago and still remember the incident and the acute pain that followed. It's also specific movements and weight-bearing actions that cause pain and discomfort over that six month period. For example, I can't bear my body weight doing pushups with the wrist flexed (in the normal pushup position) but I can do pushups (well a few anyway) on my knuckles with the wrist straight with no discomfort. I'm also pretty active, play sport regularly, I'm reasonably fit and know my body well enough to recognise general soreness vs an actual injury of some sort. And specific pain on specific movements/load over a six month period indicate injury, not old age.

The issue will be is it just a severe slow healing sprain or is it a fracture somewhere. And yes I should have had X-rays/scans at the time, my bad.

Think you will need an MRI to get a clear diagnosis.

Wrists can be super painful. I fractured my ulna a few years ago playing soccer and it was the most painful injury I've had. My wrist twisted as I fell and they didn't operate. It ended up healing in the slightly wrong position and I now have at best 80% strength in the wrist, struggle with push ups, even doing a quad stretch my wrist shakes as I stretch.

You don't realise how much you use something until you can't or the ability to use it properly is lost.

Sounds like a case of leprosy to me.

I know the feeling when it comes to push ups - I have tendonitis in both wrists, push ups on knuckles or not at all for me. Tendonitis can be controlled but fixing it is a whole different story.

Me too. Got too hard so I got Mrs Willo to do them for me.
Now she’s complaining she’s got RSI in her wrists. Bloody malingerer.

Decided to see a physio in Richmond first. She says likely a scapholunate ligament sprain on the lower end of the scale, fracture unlikely but she cant rule it out 100%. These ligaments can take 6-8 months to come right so time frame is normal. I have the usual stabilisation exercises to do, if no improvement then we go to scans.

Thanks Pete & Tys and TBR for your diagnoses. Baloo, no thanks at all to you.

PS love you Big Bear

Did she use the words "at your age" during the diagnosis at all ?
