Pick 29: Shai Bolton

I like the idea of him coming in for Conca - gain more speed and chaos but lose a little inside hardness.

The crows at the G actually could work
Interesting one.
If he goes well today especially in difficult conditions I'd go along with this.
Was thinking CEllis rather than KMac to replace Conca - but to give a reward and incentive to Bolton could be a good thing for now and also for the medium term if Bolton can see that there are opportunities for him.
Maybe today's VFL game could be a bit of a playoff between a few of them

Watching todays game in the VFL Bolton is playing midfield/wing and done a couple of nice things but has not really impacted a great deal
Naish kicked a nice goal but is still way too skinny and needs another year.

Bolton has all the talent but just lacks the fitness to gut run all day and spends way too much time just walking around

Definitely is elite in athletic talent as well as having good footy nous, in saying that I don’t think his kicking much more then solid, that lair rising action and high drop leads to inconsistency , may well end up a star with maturity as he is still just a boy, however at this stage I believe he really has to lift his intensity, want and concentration

I wonder if we will ever see it. Staying at RFC is a good long term move for him as he has to really work on his weaknesses to get a game with us. Other clubs he plays earlier but may not then push himself enough.

I reckon that’s as good a quarter as I’ve seen him play up the ground.

He really put his hand up. I've been a critic, and Mr B's points are valid, but he's putting himself near the front of the queue.
Certainly did and was a pretty hard game, his pace through the middle could be handy against the Crows one pacers, might be worth while playing him coming of his best game.

Worth a game or two to this year keep him training hard. Next year his year maybe. Butler his opponent for a spot?
Like Higgins I think even though they have started their careers as small forwards I think they are both more up the ground players

Rioli can go there too. They could all rotate through. Imagine what that would do to the oppo small defender's head.
Yep no doubt TBH, I think Stengles probably the only one of our bunch of small forwards who is pretty much only a small forward at AFL level

If we can keep Shai at the club and he is willing to put in the work, (both questions are a big IF!), I reckon he could play a bit like Shedda?

Very happy with how Shai has been tracking since he's played some game time further downfield in the last month. He is not playing like someone who wont's to go home. It'd be nice to have a look at him in the ones for a few weeks.

Yes he has a few tricks, be nice if he could.

I know its not like for like but my changes for this week would be

Out: Vlastuin (susp) Conca (inj)
In: Moore , Bolton

Bolton was fantastic in the midfield in the 2nd half and Moore was brilliant all game just about everywhere

Nope still is not ready. Doesn't go both ways.

Think it's C. Ellis's turn to show us what he has in the 1's.

K-Mac probably comes back in too

Shai not ready for midfield duties at the higher grade just yet.

Shai has been very good for four weeks now, since he came back from injury. He's been to multiple centre bounces at all four games, and won a few clearances each time. He doesn't get huge numbers but he is electric. His screamer and (oh for a review) non-goal (it was a goal) against Willy were worthy of some sort of vehicle.

Last 4 weeks:
17 disposals, 8 tackles, 1.0 and named 2nd best v Collingwood. Maybe 3? clearances.
14 disposals, 5 tackles, 2.2 (3.1) and named 4th best v Willy.
18 disposals, 4 tackles, 0.3 and named 5th best v Blues.
22 disposals, ? tackles, 1 goal v Box Hill today.

How's this from Manfred on the club website:
Bolton showed his poise in front of goal in the last quarter, as he zipped and dodged his way through congestion, steadied on 50 and kicking truly to cap-off a sterling performance.

Known more for his forward craft, this was a game that showed that may be remembered for the birth of Shai Bolton, the slick and silky midfielder.

I think it's $hai Time.
