Pick 29: Shai Bolton

Sorry to be negative but that assumes his motivation is the same as ours.

If he wants to maximise his contract offers then he’ll keep on trying to take mark of the year and kick goal of the year, probably under Carr’s instruction. Put in a few flashy performances and he could get a million dollars from it. That’s the reality we’re fighting against to get total buy in.

More likely to find yourself out of the AFL if you were going to take this sort of risk. I'd suggest instructions would be to play as consistently and as well as possible to break into the Tiger side. There'd be plenty better offers if he was in the AFL team and holding his position.

I'm actually excited for Shai. If Butler can't come up for next week then he is legitimately the player waiting in the wings for a chance to be part of what was the Dan Butler trio.

Trying to break into a premiership side there are no gifts - dead man's boots is the norm.

Postscript - Less excited now I've read the posts on Butler being 2-3 weeks out.

Agree, and I reckon Dimma’s selection priorities have favoured team-first traits over selfish ones for a long time, shaping our culture nicely.

If it does result in us losing an immature talent, it’s for the greater good.

I’m just wondering if they should be more flexible with Shai’s adherence to the culture while he’s still very young. Not playing him could be a high-risk approach that results in a great team player or it could result in us losing a future star who hasn’t matured yet. Glad I don’t have to manage it.

I reckon he is the type that would love to play on the G in front of big crowd.
If there's one player on our list with X factor, he has a truck load.
Rioli Edwards and him in forward fifty, God help the defenders

Shai has been getting a first-class education under Fly. He's put together a very good last month and is the logical replacement for Butler.

Hopefully he puts in a solid showing tomorrow, hard not to select him if he does.

If Butler is out, this guy is in. (He might be anyway.)

23 disposals, six tackles, one goal and seven inside 50s today.

Give the kid a shot at retribution after last years farcical touched off the boot goal review.

Really has improved his defensive pressure, his his tackling and smothers were very good yesterday.

When Shai was 1st interviewed when drafted and asked what can he bring I think one of the things he said was tackling pressure. Did he go away from that or just not have the tank for multiple efforts?.

Interesting in the last few VFL matches, after the game the performances guys have Shai & Stengle doing high tempo shuttle sprints before hitting the sheds.

Obviously a move to improve their tank when spent.

Wonder how they feel about the only 2 that have to do the extras, hopefully embracing it.

That's a tidy days work from the young fella n comes off the back of a good month of games. Would hope he'll be given the opportunity if Geezer misses with injury.
