I realise that Bolton also messed up an easy shot because he wanted to do a snap but the Carlton defender was too close (perhaps within 5m) which put him off. He also has credits in the bank.
Shai has no credits when it comes to set shot goal kicking. He's a serial offender. Arguably the worst set shot in the club. Especially from easy positions.

Shai's credits are more around his sheer genious everywhere else.

I thought Miller was good when back and OK as second ruck. Rather him than Soldo given Tarrant & Gibcus are missing. Good cover for Balta/Grimes getting injured in a game.

Funky still needs to somehow find that little edge of self belief n hungry can do mongrel needed to survive at elite level. Without it he'll simply be another bland sort of almost coulda been a footballer that transitions through the game without much notice. Got enough attributes in size, mobility, skill but there needs to be a bit of that all consuming desperation to compete n achieve.

So Miller needs some personal motivation coaching? My suggestion is Greg Stafford. An all around nice guy and a supreme gent on the field.
For those who might be slightly sceptical, Greg's elbows and knees were demonically possessed - I have it on good authority.

It's a bit like with Balta last year.
Miller trained forward/ruck all off season on the back of a promising showing in that role at the end of last year.
Then we switch him to defence out of necessity at the 11th hour ahead of Young.
Now I know Dimma likes flexibility in a team but there's part of me that wishes he'd just back other specialists in their roles to fill the gaps.
It's not overally a huge surprise that Miller was a bit uncertain on that basis when switched all over the place during the night. Lynch & Riewoldt aren't playing ruck/fwd/defence.
We've got to persevere with him & have him settle in a role whatever it is. He will not get better in the VFL at this stage.

He needs to do more.
Jump and mark the ball ffs
He stands around alot.
He does 1 good thing then disappears.
80% game time 9 touches 5 marks.
That's not good enough

I thought he was OK. He played as our 7th defender, 2nd ruck and maybe had the occasional run up forward, (he might have been in the ruck when up forward)
If he is dropped we would need to add another back and a 2nd ruck, which would mean another runner would also need to go.

I reckon he stays in the same role, at least until Tarrant is back.

Agree. Talls that can play all over the ground have one thing in common - they read the ball in flight better than others. It means they don't care where you put them - they can mark a footy. Riewoldt, Richo and company. Miller needs to be settled in a possie and used sparingly in the ruck. His strength is not marking. But he can make a decent fist of it if he has fairly predictable lines to run and delivery - as a forward. Or as a back with the job to spoil and maybe run-off occasionally. But not a mix of the two.

If you ask him to do too much he's bound to fail.

Miller with a moon-boot v Tarrant over 20 meters or 100. Easy.

Ben Miller (17 disposals, four clearances, four marks)

"Whilst the stats sheet may not suggest it, Ben had an outstanding game. He halved a number of contests in our forward half that directly resulted in goals for us, and they're the sorts of acts that we really value. I thought he was an imposing big man on the day around the ground."

Needs to push hard forward when in the ruck. English did it to great effect against us. A point of difference I’m looking for is having a ruckman who can kick a goal. Will make us a more dangerous team.

Helps if they just gave the kid a position to play and stick with it for 5-6 weeks. Is thrown around to cover everyone and people wonder why he still lacks confidence.
Thought he played some good footy last year when given a chance and also did well in the games he played this year. Another that is harshly treated by MC.
