I didn’t expect us to poll all that well given our season, but fourth last for votes and only 2 votes from finishing second last ? Cmon. Another example of the anti Richmond sentiment that pervades inside of the AFL - including our umpire friends.

We finished on top of the ladder in 2018 with 72 points and the best we could do in the Brownlow for total team votes was 6th. Get ****.

The AFL and the umpires hate us.
Dont stress champ.
Yesterday on the footy show.
One of the questions in the quiz was 'Name the last 5 brownlow winner's' and the blokes answering are blokes that feed off the AFL it took the ages to work it out
When i was growing up you would always remember the brownlow winner's.
Betting and TV has changed the brownlow. Umpires read papers and watch tv.
3 years in a row The winner has been in the top 3 in betting and has been favourite twice.
Its time the brownlow was the coaches award not the umpires award

Surprised how tall wines was, knew he was a big bodied mid but didnt know he was as tall as dusty.

Listed as 1.87m and 98kgs. We desperately need an inside mid built like that.

That’s a decent size melon on his shoulders.
My 11yo son had to go to bed before the end of the count last night and this morning he asked me who won. I said Ollie Wines and he asked if he was the one with the brick head. I chuckled but said he seemed a decent you g man and a bloody good footballer that I did not mind winning.
In the intro with the parents his Mum said he was born a solid boy, a bit of a Bam Bam. Pretty apt if you ask me.

I've lost interest in the Brownlow over the years. I don't know why defenders, ruckmen or key position players bother to turn up.

It's up to the media to put more prestige into the coaches award. The coaches value players that do their role and influence a game, rather than pure stats. A good first step is that coaches votes should go in sealed envelopes.

All-time list, sorted by modified votes (1976-77 x 0.5, 1924-30 x 3.6).

Dusty extends his lead, Cotchin creeps past Richo, Jack passes seven players and is inside the top 15.

did anyone else conclude that Brisbane's culture is a bit *smile* (zorko captain? Der) from their carry-on during the count? Classless, banal, unprofessionalism. Will not succeed without a cultural overhaul
was listening more than watching... what was ZOrko up to"
Though I wasnt sure what jack 's act was about.

Coaches Award = just another one of the top 5 midfielders,

just stupid looking drinking games and rabbit ears from the 1980's.

nothing major, just the Brisbane team were conspicuous in being the the only ones carrying on like dickheads

I don't reckon Lachie Neale or Tom Mitchell would pass the Police Force entry exam.

Jacks just shoring up his media gig in the near future. Thats just his style.

didn't watch the count, but Brisbane showed something of that lack of professionalism when they beat us early in the season. Remember Andrews when he was on the mark..? etc..

On whether coaches are good judges. I had a look at who they vote for as coach of the Year. Not once have they voted Clarkson. Dimma once 2017.

Who would you have given votes in round 23?

We could barely poll when winning flags so no surprises our total vote count this year was appalling.
We were ahead for much of the first half and came home with the last 5 goals to draw. Lucky one by JR to an extent at the end but we got into the goal-square at the death. Strong game from Astbury enabled that result: 20Ds @ 95% DEF/12Ks/8HBs/13ms in his last game. Ross and Short also had good games, along with Lynch - 16/13/3/7 plus 3 goals. So, if Dave saved the game, Tom may have almost won it - Jack kicked 3 too but not his greatest game. But, given the result, arguably a RFC player worthy of a vote.

But, as per usual, it's just mids who accumulate Ds that get the votes. Do they just go in and check the games stats on the AFL site before awarding them?
Anyway, your final point is exactly what I am getting at. There may be other games where our players were left out of the votes that were even more glaring but I couldn't really be bothered looking back into it. It's just what we Richmond followers have become accustomed to.

Some funny tweets from Dane Swan from the night:

“Anyone know why Matt de Boer was on that pre Brownlow package? I got more votes in one game than he has full stop.”

“Gary Rohan got more votes in that round than kicks in the entire finals series,”

“The making of the medal, there’s 90 seconds of your life you’ll never get back!”

“Can vouch for winning a Brownlow makes you infinitely better looking. Guess nothing is changing for Clayton Oliver then."

“Nice of Tarocash to kit out Petracca and Oliver tonight,”

“PSA: I’m getting a lot of Nadia gags knocked back tonight,”

“What is going on with Clayton Oliver’s hair? Aren’t barbers open in WA?

de Boer was home in Perth so I assume just making up the numbers due to Covid restrictions. At least he was better than Nic Nat
