Picks 30 & 47 - Your Wish List

The first three picks would have me floating on a cloud. Three of my favorite players.

If we were to get Heppell, Harper and Michie, boy would we be set. We can only dream.
That would be a great result Bobby. So would Tape, Horlin-Smith, Farmer. Even if Farmer's gone, as I think he might be, we're likely to pick up a decent key position prospect and another mid-sized player at 47 & 51.

A lot of combination's would make me happy. It's a ridiculously even draft.

KevinSheehan: In my view he's a certainty to get drafted but it just shows how even a lot of the young fellas are. There are players outside the top 30 who could easily be as good as some in the top 15.

Sure would've loved to used that compensation pick.

Barnzy, have you thought about this.

GC will need to jettison at least 5 players a year for their first five seasons, so will GWS when they come in. Both teams will need to reduce their list by 2 players each year and AFL rules specify that each club must exercise a minimum of 3 picks at each ND.

So GC will end up delisting or trading at least 15 players on their initial list within five years. They won't like the idea of delisting them for nothing so they will probably look to trade for an early draft pick. I wonder which picks will hold a great deal of currency when talking to them?

I would imagine that each compensation pick that another club holds onto could be used to trade for a two or three season youngster as their salary cap and list reduction begins to bite around 2013-4.

We should try to get a couple more, if anything.

Depends what players they're jettisoning. Wouldn't be the most talented ones I'd think. Interesting idea though.

Absolutely. But no-one will be trading an end of first round pick for a total spud.

What if they end up with 6 ruckmen on their list? They already have Fraser on a two-year contract, Rory Thompson, Zack Smith, Charlie Dixon and Tom Hickey and will probably draft Gorringe.

One might be shaken out of that tree in 12 months time by an intrepid camper.

How many key forwards can they run with? Or midfielders?

How many of these young guns they are accumulating are going to be happy to not get a game in their first two years?

How long before they run into salary cap issues? Flacco alone will earn more than the GDP of some Central American republics.

GC being forced to trade a couple of quality players around years 2-4 is very likely.

I will ask on here rather then starting a new thread. but seeing as this thread talks about our later picks.

Not much has been said about our Coburg players this year in regards to getting picked up by us in the draft or rookie draft.

Are any of the Coburg players a chance for us to pick them up this year with a late pick?

Another factor to consider is that not all of them will be getting games. This combined with a bit of homesickness may not bode too well for some of the young promising players.

Ben Jakobi is training with the club so he must be a chance. Lawton could get rookied too.

Are we sure GC wont have an exemption based on the extenuating circumstances of having alot of youngsters in the first couple of years? I dont think GC will be forced to offload 5 players if they dont feel it necessary, and those 5 picks are most likely going to have the least potential of the bunch. Where I think opportunity will present itself is further down the track in 4 and 5 years time when it is going to be difficult for them to keep all their similarly aged players under the salary cap.

Picks 30, 47, 51 should get us three more really good prospects.

At 30 I would hope we get someone who has dropped down the board. I think someone will slide through. This crop is so even that someone has to fall through. I honestly think that we will get someone we didn't expect to be still on the board. Anyone could slide Lamb, Harper, Jacobs, Green, Prestia, Parker, Horlin-Smith, Darling anyone. I don't know who but it will happen.

I would then hope we grab Michie at 47 and at 51 I would do backflips with someone like Alex Fasolo, Aaron Young, Ryan Lester, Danie Farmer,Warrick Andreoli
or Ben Newton. If we get Michie plus one of those what night.

30 could be the pick that accelrates our timelines.

Taylor *maybe* gonski, Collins gonski (was a mid but did play up forward and kicked 15 goals which was enough for 2nd in our goalkicking), Morton midfield move (may have to go forward again by necessity).

We need classy forwards ASAP, specifically mid-sized types who can take a mark and do it on ground level too. Problem is Harper and Lamb will go in between our 1st and 2nd pick IMO.

I agree.

Hence why I desperately want Michie. He is such a smart forward player. He gets himself into great areas and when he gets it there will either be score involvements or goals coming from him. He is a better version of Collins in that he plays the same sort of role but is smarter, better skilled and a better mark.

Alley may disagree, but I would spend pick 30 on him. He plays a position as you say Barnzy that we are in need of. Could seeing him playing seniors from Round One and have a season where he kicks a decent tally of goals.

I would be over the moon to get him.

Would you still take Michie if there is a slider like for example Jacobs, Green, Harper etc ?

Agree. He fits a need. The problem will be what is left at 30. It's not beyond a club to pluck Michie in the 20's.

30 is a massive call.

I would take Michie in front of Jacobs and Green, but not in front of Harper. I have Harper a top ten talent. If we could get him at 30 it would be the biggest robbery ever witnessed.

Michie is very underated in my opinion. I have him at number 20. My rankings change constantly but he has always been around that mark for mine. In front of Green and Jacobs. I worry about Jacobs athletically at the next level and his kicking under pressure. Just a slight worry, still a very good player. Green's height and positional impact have him lower than Michie. Michie is smarter than Green on the field and a better mark and kick.

It is so even though mate, little intangibles here and there. My rankings no doubt would be a tad different if I saw the interviews, witnessed first hand the draft camp and watched them live dozens of times. Thats why I have faith in the recruiting team.

I agree with this draft being so even its the intangibles you mention that will make all the difference where players go in the draft. I like the sound of Michie but I am praying that the footy gods finally look to help us and let Harper slip to 30. I think this kid has some serious talent and its only injuries that have prevented him showing it on a consistent basis.
