I think we whinge and scrutinise way more than we used to. Watch some old footage one day - go back 30-40 years. You'll notice a plethora of baffling decisions under the one-umpire system. The difference was that players, commentators and even supporters gave the head a little shake and got on with the job. AFL is not cricket where replays and 3rd umpires are definitive. The game is subject to subjectivity! And it's ok. Imho, we need to stop whinging about the game and just enjoy it.
you cant enjoy the game when you touch someone and they get a free kick (especially when pee heart ottens recieves that free kick for nothing) if i want to see non contact sport ill go watch netball or basketball which incedently is more rougher than afl at this very moment.
IN MY HONEST OPINION this game will decrease in supporters/Memberships/ticket sales every year as people will get sick of this NEW AFL. THE NEW AFL SUCKS and i want the old one back
by the way i plan to run against demetriou or however you spell it (if you dont know who im talking about he is the guy with the black and grey EYEBROW) and i plan to take the old AFL back and make it enjoyable again and not some overpriced laughing stock of a contact sport.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. But recent numbers on attendance and the tv $ cashgrab don't support your argument. Interest in the game is still strong and growing. I have a feeling that the players would also not be too keen to support your ridiculous and grammatically questionable theory that basketball is "more rougher" - they'd probably be more than happy to meet you inside a pack though.
Seems to me that all you're proving through your whining is that it's the supporters of the game who have gone a bit flacid.
Hopper, while its true that the attendances and tv ratings etc have been on the rise, the reality is that the majority of that growth is happening within the games strongholds and not in any newer markets. Within the northern markets in Aust there are still major hurdles to get over, one of the biggest being that people who have grown up on a diet of the rugby codes already see the AFL as a soft sport which is only magnified by some of the incidents and rule changes that are made.
