OMG!!
it was so obvious to anyone at the G yesterday that playing the likes of Petifer and Tivendale that Terry is looking for immediate success rather than sticking with his origianal plan of building a real playing group of kids. when richmond starts playing shithouse Terry seems to always say that this is because we are putting inexperienced players on the field. as soon as we have a chance at the finals Terry drops the kids to put the likes of Tivendale and Petifer in, in the hope that it will get over the line.

this is so frustrating!! i would rather see the likes of Morton, Collins and Reiwoldt out there. so what if they have a *smile* week??? give them another go! Tivendale and Petifer have proven that they dont bleed for the club and deserve to be playing suburban footy.

what do you guys think?

Id rather get smashed by 100 points playing the kids than by 50 points playing the duds

Just look at West Coast ::)

Agree!!

There's only about another 50 threads stating the same thing!!

Hopefully Terry is reading PRE and the message gets through.

For crying out loud: IT'S WHAT THE FANS WANT TERRY!! :veryupset :veryupset :veryupset :veryupset

When he took over he wanted finals action as soon as possible (again to reward the senior players). 2005 we only had three picks in the draft (a year when Hawthorn was trading like crazy) having given away one for Patrick Bowden (remember him?). The year after that he downgrades a top ten pick and gives away another pick to get a substandard spare parts player in Polak (and oh yes we also got Kent Kingsley - another Wallet special). And last year of course McHahon for 19 (although if he had had his way he would have traded all our top 20 picks for Judd) .

It's just not part of Wallets psychological makeup to 'play the kids', to value draft picks, to have the patience to build a succesful team via youth and take the pain that comes with it. He wants to be immediately competitive (some BS about winning culture, I don't know?) and more so now as his miserable coaching career is on the line. Bottomline I will believe it when I see it (and even if it does happen it will probably only last a week or two at most).

I think it's very optimistic, even by my standards, to think we were a chance at the finals when we only had 3 wins. I do feel Terry has shaped the list for himself rather than the future though.

That's supported by his comments that the list wasn't in bad shape and just needed a bit of fine tuning and that there was no need for us to bottom out in order to climb the ladder.

Trading for players such as Knobel, P Bowden, Kingsley etc also indicate attention to the present rather than the future and all failed to make an impact.

Our team selection indicates experience over youth, but the question remains why we don't have a heap of kids ready to step up, especially considering the chances we've had at the drafting table since Terry arrived.
