I'm off sick from work today, so I thought I would get around to doing some player comparison, after a little unintentional nudge from Skills.

THe recent Richard Tambling thread raised a few questions about Bling's development. But rather than focus purely on Richie, I thought I would compare the up and coming young Richmond guys with some more established players currently getting a game (Mercuri is the only exception),

First up are the Richmond guys, and following will be the more established players from other clubs. So here are some stat averages of random players that play at least some of the time in the middle.

Great work NYT, I'm sitting down as I'm typing having my cup of coffee analysing the stats.

Considering you have a bit of time up sleeve today, would it be possible to compile stats ( add those to the Hughes thread) like the one's above to compare Cleve Hughes with other players in their first year of football?

"No". is the short answer. It takes a long time and over here it is 5pm - Will have to work tomorrow...

Later on in the season maybe.
 
Great work NYT...!

At a rough glance, it appears the benchmark of the real quality players is about 15 possessions in their first FULL year of football. On that basis, Tambling would be slightly behind - but only just. And it says an enormous amount for the quality of Raines, Deledio, Polo and Foley.

Two questions stand out for me:

1) How bloody good was Mercuri...?!

2) Is Luke Hodge seriously overrated, or is this a case of stats not telling the whole story...?
 
I think with Luke Hodge you must take into account that his left foot is one of the best going around, and most of his kicks are 50 to 60 metres, and pretty accurate.
As a comparison, I would rate one of Luke Hodge's kicks to 2 of Cameron Ling's kicks.
 
Great work NYT, After looking at those stats i think Ritchie’s stats compare with some of these other players in their first couple of years, some people just need to cut young Ritchie some slack, in comparison to some of his team mates yes slightly behind but something tells me blingers will take the next step in his 3rd year of football.
 
Aslong as we keep living off stats like these our youngsters will all become superstars. Now could you break that down for me in effective kicks, stats that led to goals, not turnovers etc.

Let's face it, there are some massive questions over our so called elite youngsters and this year will show us wether they will be able to make the cut or not. Massive year for a lot of recruits.

It must always be remembered that stats are one thing but it's what you do with them that counts. 8)

Why not have a look for yourself. You might be surprised to see some of the kids you've been bagging are actually well ahead of many of their contemporaries. This year is no more a massive year for our kids than it is for everyone else's. Just try and relax a bit and see what happens FFS.
