Player Review by Brian Royal [Merged]

Re: Royal's player review

If Royal was any good he would have landed a senior job by now. He'll always be Terry's yes man.

Even if so, it doesn't make his comments invalid.

No one would ever accuse you of bottling up their feelings H!

I've really enjoyed Royal's reviews, and more importantly impressed that such a review was provided.

I see no reason not to view them all as an honest assessment of the playing list: He has given credit where due, and without insulting or debasing anyone, makes it clear where the coaches have been disappointed with players, and where players have been disappointed in themselves. In particular, he notes where players have "got ahead of themselves", or not worked hard enough.

He didn't have to provide this review, and kudos are due to him and the club for doing so. I think it provides an insight into where players are at.

I hope we are not so busy bagging the club and looking for negatives in everything that we do that we don't notice when they go out of their way to communicate with the members and supporters.

Good post Chook

He barely indicated that the coaches were displeased but I agree he did suggest certain players should be unhappy with their seasons.
Overall I thought the reviews were extremely light though perhaps more than you would usually get.

On another note: When is that end of season football department review happening?

The best review is still the AFL prospectus, which isn't perfect either (kick effectiveness % anyone?). But it is good to get from the club a fairly up front summary of where the coaches view the players are at, even if it's short.

Sometime around the split round I'd imagine.
