Usually when there is speculation about the future of an AFL coach the senior players (leadership group) usually come out into the press in support of that coach - always to show unity.

Can we take the silence of the Richmond Senior Players/Leadership Group as a lack of support for Terry Wallace?

A very good question :o

we have been in the media for all the wrong reasons again this week. If I was an AFL player I would be very careful about uttering a single word to the media. In fact I think they are given a list of standard phrases that are allowed, any actual opinions and insights are forbidden

"they are a great bunch of blokes down at the club"
"I'm just really enjoying my footy at the moment"
"we are taking it one week at a time"
"ohhh yeah, no we understand that we need to improve in certain areas"
"there are no easy games"

Did anyone else notice that Jacko was the 'voice/face of the club during the week?

What is with that... don't we have a captain to do this kind of thing?

It's something I've noticed over the last couple of years. The players have never really offered their backing or paid tribute to Wallace unless a question led them down that path, then they said what they had to say.

that's in comparison to the players thoughts on Jonno when he was Captain. In a lot of interviews they heaped praise on him without being prompted first. It certainly changed my thinking of Kane as a captain of the boys and at the same time highlighted the lack of unprompted praise for the coach.

Interesting on 3aw terry saying he won't comment on individual players, probably hoping that they won't comment publicly on him either. ;)

I am not disappointed that any discontent either way stays in house. Does more harm than good in a public forum.

Jacko has been for the last month. This is his 2nd or 3rd time speaking to the media in the last couple of weeks.

Stop reading between the lines and imagining things that are not real.

The players' job is to play good enough footy to win football matches.

It is not their business, and certainly not in their personal interest to take sides with any particular individual, but to be loyal to those appointed to lead the club.

It is a sad fact of the modern, professional footy era that restricts passion.

I'd love to hear a coach or a captain come out before a big game and say " We are going to slaughter the opposition tomorrow." but they won't, just in case they lose face.

I'd also like to see the entire Richmond playing list line up on the FOOTY SHOW, sing the Tiger song gustily and tell the opposition (especially Collingwood) on live TV that they are going to be EATEN ALIVE on the weekend.

You'd have to try and squeeze 200,000 people into the G if that happened.

Don't know about that.

Daniel Jackson came out earlier this week and made a public statement backing Terry.

Newman has done so previously.

And a couple of others that I loosely recall.

Rance in today's paper.

What is positive is that the articles nearly all seem to be coming from our junior/developing players.

Says alot where the 'real' leadership sits.

I heard Nathan Brown spruiking up Terry...or was that his new terry towelling t-shirts that he's just launched under his label??? Can't remember.

Therein lies the problem. Such a thing doesn't exist at Richmond. We don't have any senior players or leadership groups. We only have senior leeches that suck the club dry for money and fame, and couldn't care less whether we get flogged each week.

In other thread I raised that exact question, the response was the "players rotate" the media interviews.

Strange, players can be interviewed anytime, but both Newman and Foley have gone missing in action (yet again). Of course after Newman's famous clanger "relax" telling all and sundry that the Tigers have a game plan, the players know what to do etc etc, he's been unsighted since (I haven't seen too many face to face interview by Newman with the media over the last few weeks). His onfield leadership efforts have not exactly set the world or players on fire either.

If Rance has said a few kind words, Jackson as well, then that is particularly telling in my book as to where the leadership of the club is and it ain't in the senior players.

God, if Nathan Brown said a few words about the matter, all hope is lost.

I don't think there has been no need for any player to say anything to support of Terry & his future, regardless of the results so far. Up to date, realistically, the club is 2 games out of the eight, and as we know they were in winning positions in some of the games they played. Our players have come out in the media and said it's the playing group that needs to lift.

At this particular moment not only is the coach under pressure but the players are too, they are the one's that need to perform.

We should shift the focus off Wallarse and lay it on the players, they are the one's potentially with a future, not Wallarse.

I thought Jackson presented himself really well. He'd be a potential captain if not for his glaring flaws!

I reckon I've heard Newman, Richo, Bowden and Jackson in the last few weeks all saying they wanted TW to stay and that nothing has changed from what March said earlier in the year, or what Sheedy said recently.

How many times do they have to say it before it gets heard?

Good Call GPB.

I've always said that when you are down and out, you say little and re-double your effort - because anything else said are just words, often considered hollow. We've only had one chance to say anything so far!

The so called lack of senior player support is more about what one person wants to see, than it necessarily being a problem.

Freezer, people only hear what they want to hear - or so it seems..................

Reckon he might like to Bobster, but he's got an obligation to face the rat pack as decreed by the AFL. Imagine that after each loss? Think he's been more concise than in the past considering his situation ;)

i guess you could argue it's a sign of lack of leadership.

did you see nathan brown on the footy show? he said he hopes "we play better so terry can coach out the year... and so that i can play on next year"
