anyone who thinks pattison will become a good AFL player is conning themselves. He runs like a robot and couldnt kick a footy to save his own life
Thread topic talks about players - but is actually a diatribe on Pattison. ???
He does run a bit like a robot. He let go with one nice drop punt last night but usually his kicking is poor to disgraceful. Still, one nice drop punt- that's an improvement.
He is quite fearless and honest in his endeavours. We don't have enough players with these qualities.
Unlike some of his eminently gifted teammates, Swampy is not too important to chase. That's one of the reasons he's not running games out. He has to pick up after our many champions. And he does it often.
He's been forced to play the #1 ruck role for three weeks (okay, he shared it last night). A role to which he's not naturally suited IMO. But he's toiled admirably against more experienced opponents. He does not shirk, unlike say, Graeme Polak, another unsuited to the ruck role but for different reasons.
Patto is still very slim. Totally raw-boned. He has a willingness to collide with opposition players (unsuited to the modern game, I agree). Once or twice this year he's gone into a pack and taken the ball out of the hands of a dwarf. If he'd just punch em in the head at the same time it's a great play.
If we can get Patto to gain some muscle mass and improve his stamina, he can be valuable for us. If he can keep improving his skills, he can be a good player one day. But that day does seem a long way away at the moment.
Meanwhile there are a dozen or more blokes wrongly getting an AFL game for Richmond who can learn a lot from him.
