Amazing how it turns around. Some of these boys seemed destined to struggle. But an injection of a few players and a few others are really starting to play with some self belief and confidence.

It's great to see.

Just don't want them turfed out if we have a couple of losses.

It's too important in their development to be seen as scapegoats every time we have a bad patch.
I reckon let them grow together, win or lose. Just persevere and see what they've got.

Spot on Peter Wilson!

I reckon the events of the last 2 weeks may leave the likes of Tivva, Petticoat Junction, Raines and maybe even Bowds with furrowed brows!
Suddenly they are not walk up starts to a senior game. This is what we have craved for so long, competition amongst the playing group to get picked.
In the past too many have gotten games when they were not deserved.
You need to perform to keep spot in the side, as it should have been!
It feels like we are catching up to some of other clubs in this regard.

Oh well better late than never. :clap

Please Mr Wallet..DO NOT DEVIATE FROM THIS NEW WAY OF THINKING ON SELECTION THURSDAYS FROM NOW ON !!!

Agree willo..I've always reckoned if I could bottle confidence and self-belief for Richmond footballers I'd be a millionaire. As much as I don't want to see players brought back in because of their "name" I also don't want any prejudice agaisnt them if they're our best options. There's not a player on our list who I think shouldn't get a game if they earn it.

Pettifer needs to join Tin Man on his journey to see the Wizard of Oz. Raines and Bowden should never play in the backline together again. 33% of our backline responsible for 80% of our turnovers. If I was coach, these 3 would never get another game for Richmond.

Come to think of it, Pettifer would be well advised to seek the same gifts as Scarecrow and Lion whilst he's there.

The little passage of play, when we kicked 4 in a row in the 2nd quarter was the most exciting footy ive seen from Richmond in my life. White, Tambling, Edwards, Riewoldt, Pattison, King, Foley, Deledio all taking the game on, and the pressure they put on was the best sight ever. Screaming 'ball'! everytime Bulldogs got the ball coz they got tackled was something us supporters never really get to witness as funny as it sounds. Hope its a sign of things to come.

I agree with the philosophy of keeping a core group of kids together, but the way you've said it makes it very unfair for guys like Hughes, Jackson, Polo, Casserly, Connors, Collins etc because there are two key selection rules we must obey:

1. Never give easy games, this includes young players
2. If a youngster is dropped, replace him with another youngster (unless absolutely none of them deserve a game which is highly unlikely!)

Eg. If Edwards gets 5 possies next week then I'd happily drop him for Hughes if he kicks another bag, even though I see Edwards as being part of this future core group.

How's this all sound to you guys?

Rotation is the key imo. We got lots of kids atm, all pushing for selection, rotate them through, see what they're made of, give the others a break. This is what WCE are doing, theyve realised its their only way forward. They'll be back up again pretty soon due to good list management. We must be smart.

Good stuff.
Isn't it good to be excited by the footy again #7?
