I was reading an article by Paul Gough on the AFL website about Danny Frawley and Paul Broderick joining Melbourne in coaching roles when I came across this:
"Frawley as well as former Fitzroy and Richmond star Paul Broderick and former Bulldogs' assistant coach Barry Prendergast have all joined the Demons, who already have Mark Riley, Peter Curran and Anthony Rock as full-time assistant coaches to senior coach Neale Daniher."
We're currently digging ourselves out of our own financial crisis (or at least we're trying to) without any help from the AFL. Melbourne received $1.5 million from the AFL Competitive Balance Fund at the end of 2003. And yet by my calculations they've now got more specialist and assistant coaches (on either a full or part-time basis) than we do. Tell me I've made a mistake!
