Last seasons game against Essendon was revealed after that match as Richmonds "Pledge Match". Each player made a pledge to his teammates of what he could do to help the team win the match.
Terry Wallace said each year they would quietly pick a match as such.
Do we know if this years Pledge Match has been played?
If not lets nominate the game we think it should be.
I'l start with the game Vs St Kilda.

I think some thought this was the pies match, but, not sure.

Saints would be one for mine, but also the Weagles at the end of the year.

We shouldn't need all these pledge/grudge matches to get motivated. 4 points and a possible finals birth should be enough.

Agree, but by creating these pledge/grudge/crunch games you are teaching the boys how to think like winners. Eventually it will become automatic even when playing the games we should win easily. i.e. Hawthorn this season. Clever from TW.

I went to the game in Adelaide on the weekend....bloody fantastic result.
My best mate who lives in SA and loves the tigers went to training on Friday at AAMI stadium and sat with David Weadon a staff member. he asked him about the Pledge games and even David wasnt sure which ones were going to be chosen....My guess, W Bulldogs in a few weeks....we owe them bigtime!

Second you RROFO

I hated when our previous coach (won't mention name) & his assistant (nth) would state "they are professional footballers & should not have to be told the importance of that game" (straight after another loss).

Now that the "pledge match" idea is known to the public, discussion of it is unhealthy as it will become a media toy. It's only useful if it stays amongst the players, otherwise the buildup puts all the pressure and expectation back on us and sets us up for a fall.

Disagree

Helping players come out of there shell and open there minds to each other is team building.

Teams that play as Teams win premierships .

I think the Melbourne game should be the one as it is the game Browny went down in , it's a chance to prove to themselves they are ready to take the next step.

I vote for every match.

could be this week, but doubt it - now that we are within striking distance of the 8, i think TW might wait a few weeks and depending on results go with the Doggies game - given they way they smashed us round 1 plus the recent history this must be a strong possibility ;)
