with pattison clearly not up to afl standard why havent the club put polak on the ltil and promoted cartledge. what an opportunity to have a decent look at a player at the top level before we have to make a decision on weather we keep him or not.
one thing for sure cartledge could do no worse thab pattison no matter how badly he performs.

Good question. Seems to have been forgotten about. A bit remiss of them not to promote someone - and the obvious one is Ligament.

Shocked you can't see Patto's value.

Some clubs have got it all wrong with their ruck priorities... With Patto we are ahead of the competition in recognising what type of players a ruckman needs to be in the modern game.

Needs to increase his marking presence, then we've got a winner on our hands.

Up to your old tricks calling Patto not AFL standard again claw. Not surprised though as you'll always need someone to pick on or you'll become redundant. It doesn't matter what he'll ever do you're just gonna keep bagging him despite his work ethic and constant improvement.

The guy does some terrific work around the ground and is what? 21 years old? Gimme a break...

Don't think this has anything to do with Patto - IMO he's travelling well. We have an opportunity to have a look at a bloke on the rookie list though and it's being squandered.

Good post.
Disagree.

Whose spot does he take just to see if he can play? Particularly if you think Les is playing well and we're trying to have a tilt at the finals?

I would of thought it was pretty obvious, the club rate Patto higher than Cartledge, or value getting games into Patto as a higher priority than Cartledge. Presumably he was put on the rookie list for cover if Les or Snake go down, they haven’t.

Do the get higher match payments if they’re on the list proper even when playing at coburg? If so, that would seem another sound reason.

Thread is just another swipe by a perpetual bagger. With Miller gone, Tigers winning games, Joel playing well and Petts, Tiv and Hyde out he is running out of current things to whinge about. Now it is Cartledge not getting a game! Oh dear.....

What about once the finals tilt is over?

Wallace actually addressed this a week or so ago.

They will not promote someone solely for the sake of promotion. If they are being promoted, its because they will be playing.

Back then the two being looked at were Cartledge and Sly (because of the wipe out we were having in tall backs).

Our finals campaign will only end as the final siren sounds to signal our PREMIERSHIP. :clap

There won't be any opportunities to check out rookies after that.

claw, do you watch patto's efforts live on game day? (hard to pick up on tv) while i admit there's still plenty of improvement left in the big man, as other posters have said he is only 21 which is a baby age for a strong bodied tall.
as i mentioned on another thread...
pattison was very good on Saturday night, extremely interested in team play, which a fair few tigers still don't get. if they did the one percenters that patto and white did against brisbane we could have won by a lot more. Patto's turned a cnr too formwise i reckon.

He offers a very physical presence, bringing the smaller brigade into the game by clearing space for them & protecting them. He keeps running, shepherding, making space for other leading fwds etc etc. all of which patto is top of the class compared to the rest of the team.
it's not just about getting stats. we've been lamenting the lack of physical presence in this team, and patto is an exception to this rule, a genuine hard bodied midfielder that hurts people in the contests.
he's turned a cnr too formwise me thinks

None of the rookies would get in our best 22 at present. Why waste money promoting someone that will continue playing at Coburg.

agree. And another thing, when did you last see a ruckman chasing, putting their body on line? Pattison does this all the time.

^ Young Kreuzer does it. He's going to be a fantastic player long term for the Blue filth.

Lucky we got the best player in that draft ;)

I just think it's great to see the club ahead of the competition for once.

In 3-5 years every club will be chasing ruckmen like Patto (a poor man's Kreuzer). I mean, why the hell did we have a bloke out there like Trent Knobel 2 years ago? He got 1 kick per game and gave us bragging rights by winning the hitouts stat.

With Freo as #1 in hitouts and #16 in clearances - people are starting to realise how useless tap ruckmen are.

Finally we're ahead of the competition in fashionable recruitment, even if it might be due to luck :hihi

one other thing i would like to raise.
if we have a long term injury and we arent going to promote a mature rookie to replace that injury why the hell did we take mature rookies.would we not have been better of putting some project youngsters on our rookie list.
our rookie system is a joke howat silvestor and cartledge you really have to ask why.

Maybe a bit premature in making this call here benny. You are talking Freo after all :hihi

I think it is fraught with danger to base any rational argument on the most irrational team in the AFL. They are a basket case, fullstop.

In all seriousness, I do think you are right however. It has been very interesting to look at the Freo ruck/midfield situation this season as per the take of the WA football media. 6-8 weeks ago, it was the Freo midfield that were useless and not capitalising on Sandilands ruck dominance. Now, I think you find a lot my comment along the lines of questioning whether Sandilands is the ruckman he is cracked up to be.
