Mostly the contributors on this site take their tigers to heart which magnifies the impact of player weaknesses.
.......

And in reality all they really do is provide some overall balance to the usual "puff-pieces" available on players in the media etc.

They can seem overly-negative here because they are concentrated in places like this rather than in those other outlets, I mean how many times have we seen anything on the club's website about why some of our players can't kick to save themselves?

It's a bit like the way some government politicians whinge about the ABC not being 100% "unbiased". They probably aren't, but given the overwhelming bias in the commercial media, the ABC probably just ends up tilting the balance back a fraction towards any theoretical point approaching the middle.

In the "official" outlets you almost always see only "good news stories" about players, in PRE (and other similar forums) the other side gets a run and sometimes looks too "negative" to those who expect things to be the same as the rest of the football world - it's the nature of the beast.......

True for the most extent.

The problem isn't just identifying such problems. It's the way it's stated without
any "support" for the players. XXX can't kick. He's a dud, get rid of him stuff.
It would be more constructive to say that XXX has a problem at the moment
kicking - can we identify what the problem is and remedy it? (Please don't answer
that they are an out and out dud). A bit of encouragment goes a long way - even
with so called professionals. Not they we personally can help with the problem,
just that if you are supportive of people when they are going through problems
they tend to "get better" much sooner. If they are playing for Richmond, I'll support
them - even people that end up playing for Coburg most of the time. When the
coaching staff decide that they can't 'fix' a player and it's time to move them on,
then OK, but until then they deserve our faith and support.

Now, when it comes to opposition players.... dud is a work that can and should
be used - often.
