PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

I like most PRE bloggers (and RFC fans in general) have been devestated by the 2007 Tigers.

As I brace myself for this weeks game against the Swans (I'll be going) I thought I'd pause and throw my two bobs worth of positives into the mix.

Don't get me wrong - there are heaps of negatives - but Monday is upon us and all you can do is look to take on the next game.

Trust me when I say the Swans are highly, highly over-rated!

Anyhow ........ positives:

Thursfield - thought I saw a shining light in the game before/the game he did his knee and when the GAS was sacked I didn't shed tears because Wilt was there to fill the hole. I think that remains the case! Yes he needs some size, but he has skill and heart (lacking elsewhere) and has real potential.

Polak - ok the last few weeks have been so so - but when our midfield can apply defensive pressure, Polak has a great role as a rebounder and what about those hands!!! A great mark - and some decent size.

Foley - nothing more needs to be said about this guy - great year.

Richo - you are a legend! Frustrating - yes, Flawed - yes - but - you bleed yellow and black, you have class both on and off the field and I only hope and pray that one year you will have a midfield that can actually feed you the ball! The heart of Phar Lap.

Jackson - never thought I would say this - but - there have been some signs. He is still very young, but his body seems to have matured this year. I see a good 2008 for him

Simmonds / Brown - only injuries have stopped these guys from playing "better". Brown is clearly the class player/brain of the team (and should be Captain in 08), while Simmonds is invaluable.

Patterson - notwithstanding the above, I still think he's showed enough this year to suggest a solid future

Deledio - will be better for the rest, and another pre-season.

Edwards - starting to show some real flair/skill

King - could be good (jury still out on disposals)

Hughes/Riewoldt - only a few games, but enough there to suggest a future.

Meyer - not much this year, but everyone bemoans footskills - yet I see this guy having them. Needs some size and some mongrel but deserves a chance.

Tambling - stick with him. He's very young and not too solid - but - with confidence and patience we may see some great things (enough to not trade him for sure)

finally - please don't scream me down - Pettifer - if only he had defensive skill. He is an excellent kick for goal, and often scores 2-3 goals per game. If he could stop the ball going the other way he would justify his spot.

Anyhow - that's my view

I probably missed one or two (and don't get to see Coburg games) - but - in recent weeks it been hard to remember the positives over the negatives.

There were many games this year which we lost - but geez - I thought we showed a future. There was skill, and quick movement and in so many games we were in winning positions (Adelaide/Sydney springs to mind)

It's gone downhill, but I still feel there has been "improvement"

albeit not on the ladder

C'mon Tiges - give us Sydney living supporters a chance to really finish the year on a high!

Go Tigers!
