Read your word about posts involving politics.

Now, don't get me wrong here guys, I love reading and contributing to this site, but I can't see why you should move to ban a particular topic of conversation on the grounds that a previous set of conversations got out of control.

And, while I have absolutely no intention of discussing politics, religion or er, whatever, on this site, I wouldn't be condoning censorship or prescriptive information about what can or can't be discussed. Surely your intention is to remove abusive posts, not prescribe topics?

As I said, it's not a big issue with me because I doubt that I would contribute to a political thread, but that struck me as a worrying sign. If another topic leads to abuse, are we going to ban that topic as well? Is that the way you really want to go?

Good post Dean.

It would be good to get some ideas of guidelines people think are important to make a successful message board.

The variety of opinions and ideas is what makes it worthwhile to me, and I love a "meaty "discussion" as long as people don't get personal or abusive.

I personally wasn't in favour of the anti war thread that was removed. Not because it involved politics, but moreso because it was using this site as a platform to secure votes for a cause, rather than contributing any actual discussion or relevant viewpoints on the topic.

We've said before we want everyone to be a part of this site, so opinions on the way it's run are more than welcome.

I hope everyone feels free to share their views on how to make this a better site for everyone. :)

Personally I have no problem with ANY political discussions being removed, after all this is a Footy site and there are plenty of other sites or forums for talking religion and politics etc.
The thing I do have a problem with is the site removing its own choice of thread >:( but I am sure you guys are onto that anyway.

Fair enough Deano. I accept your argument and have removed the post and will trust that if a political comment is posted such as one on the war in Iraq everyone will debate the issue not resort to name-calling/abuse because someone else has a totally opposing view. My intention wasn't to censor Deano and more along the lines of TD's view. In my experience, not only on boards, political debate always ends up in tears and I was wary, possibly hastily and wrongly. Should have realised the tiger faithful are more civilized than my greater family..ha ;D.

Cheers, MT.

Indeed it is. What's the use of dragging up a two year old thread when the admin involved isn't even at PRE anymore? It was dealt with at the time. ::)

So it's wrong if I bag the Greens, them no good tree-hugging-hippie-scum? Or was it wrong to bag them 2 years ago?

We work opposite a staunch Liberal in the Treasurer's electorate

Every Federal election I have to see Costello's mush staring back at me.

Every election I run across the road and put on a piece of black sticky tape

so he looks like Adolf, or maybe a pirate patch and scar with texta.

They know it's me, so this time I'm gonna get campaign pics of Bob Brown

And put them in our window, see how he likes those apples.

See Greens can be useful ;)

Don't get upset Rosy, he said "My bad"! I thought it was a nice idea for Gypsy, Return of the Cynicism.

Bob Brown is the most hypocritical politician in the history of Aust politics. What a looney. And I'm from the left.
