Pre season scratch matches and community series games.

Indigenous boys were awesome.
Hopefully playing with that group of elite running machines really opens mrj’s eyes. I like mrj he influences games, but has he even reached D Rodan levels yet..?

Is this Indigenous game watchable or what?
Speed kills. Rankine, Hill, Pickett Horne-Francis and the stkilda kid Milera all brilliant.

Longmuire has no idea.

We were shouldve taken Bobby Hill alongside Tarranto but we said we (Sheedys clone) wanted Hopper.

After an interrupted preseason safe to say he’ll be better for the run. 7 possessions in half a glorified scratch match isn’t horrible. Was good he got through without injury.

A great experience for MJ to spend time in the company of some Indigenous superstars. Especially given the exodus of them from our club recently. Hopefully picked up some useful knowledge.

Yes I don’t know why so many want to focus on the negatives.
I wasn’t trying to focus on the negatives - I did mention he did some nice things. I was just taken back by how far off the pace he was. He couldn’t get out of a quick job and looked physically nowhere near in good enough condition. I admit I am not really over the training side of things and I now appreciate he has had an interrupted off season. Hoping he can get himself in shape.. coming into his 5th season - we could certainly use him!

Comparing to the others on the park, who were running around like Gazelles, he definitely wasn't it. He looked like a bloke that hadn't completed a preseason.
* Bolton didn't do much either.

Yes he looked short of a gallop & no doubt an important season in terms of his career.
Yet still managed 7 possessions, 3 tackles & created multiple goal scoring opportunities in a half of footy.
Glass half full. He's got a mini preseason ahead of him to get fit. Let's hope he can because I think he's got some genuine assets as a player.

I get it but I was enthused by what I saw. That tackle that led to a turnover and goal was exquisite. He closed the space on the Docker defender but hesitated and gave him five metres, Docker defender thought he had time and started into his kicking action at which point JNR pounced and closed it down in an instant. Fitness means he’s struggling to do that repeatedly but it will come.

I only saw the highlights, and he showed up a few times and had a few really important goal assists or plays that forced the goal. The moments he had were great! He just needs to have more of them in my opinion. The positive is he will get way more match fitness out of playing a proper televised scratch match than the one the boys are playing tomorrow. The players looked enthused and like they wanted to play hard, not always the case with practice matches. If he is underdone, that game would of been better for him than just plodding to round 1.

Freo's uppish coach Justin Longmuir statement after demolition by All Stars " We played it a bit VANILLA etc etc ". WTF does that equate to ??. Mal Brown would even be scratching his head over that utterance.

Sunday update!

Plenty of confusion over the time of Monday's game.

For those uncertain of time zone differences, 12:30pm AEDT (Australian Eastern Daylight Time) is 9.30am AWST (Australian Western Standard Time).

Perth is three hours behind Melbourne during the period of Victorian daylight-saving time.

Normally the difference is two hours, but it currently extends to three hours because the Sandgropers don't observe daylight saving.

If you're in Victoria, the game time is 12:30pm.

It's great that Junior got to experience playing with his peers last night, having said that, on last years performances Mansell deserved to play ahead of Junior.

I find it a little strange that every other scratch over the weekend has been 4 quarters, yet we are only doing 3 terms, (with the flexibility to REDUCE  )

A totally meaningless game (as the Freo Coach pretty much acknowledged)

Hence surely the KPI for MRJ was:

1. don't get injured
2. don't strain/damage body (don't get injured)
3. don't go above XYZ percent effort (eg maintain the fitness strategy / timeline the RFC have put in place)

With 25 days until Rd1 it is totally feasible that RFC have MRJ carrying extra fat (energy!) leading into the season.

TBH the days of players being 'cherry ripe' for Rd 1 are long gone (indeed Hardwick was an advocate for extending peak fitness through to seasons end)

I'm sure MRJ was 'managed' and that we can rest easy knowing that the KPI's were met

The rest is already fishing wrapper...............
