Pre shot routine.....

Im a Golf Pro, and in every single lesson I give, I stress to the student the importance of having a pre shot routine.

Grip
Posture
Pivot
Ball position
Stance....

Every single shot, shot after shot after shot........then shot after shot after shot.....until it becomes natural behaviour, cos under pressure you always have a solid correct routine to go to.
So it shouldnt matter if Tiger Woods stood and watched you, you'd repeat a correct action, again and again.

So please someone tell me why this happens:

Jack has a set shot, he goes back steady's walks in, I watch him take 1,2,3,4,5,6 steps and kick....miss
Jack has another set shot, this time he walks in, I watch him take, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,(I say to myself he's gonna miss), 10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19 kicks and misses.
Jack has shot in 3rd quarter walks in, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 and misses

Richo 1st quarter...has set shot, walks in 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 misses
Richo with another shot 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, gets it.
Richo 3rd quarter 1,2,3,4,5 steps misses

What Im trying to say is that without a PRE SHOT rouine that is the bloody same EVERY SINGLE TIME you will get an inconsistant result.

Jack went 6 steps
19 steps
10 steps

Richo went 7 steps
10 steps
5 steps

This needs to be addressed.......URGENTLY

I feel like offerring my services to them if they want, but geez it drives me crazy....

You've got to drill the correct sequence, and do it again, again, and again......
 
Makes perfect sense. Richo is an easy fix - no matter where he marks he should take the shot from the 50.
 
Yeah, these are the types of things which make you question the coaching staff. They can talk about advanced rolling floods and Ball up schemes but when you see crap like that you realise that the coaching staff does not have the players fundamentals under control.

On a different note: I used to suck when kicking for goal and tried every goalkicking tip you had ever heard, but as we know it is all mental. Then the best goalkicking tip I ever put into action and had continued success with to this day was the following.

I imagine the little goal umpire (who is always standing in the middle of the sticks) is my big brother in the bag yard when I was a kid playing kick to kick. I simply walk in and boot the crap out of the ball over his head into the neighbours yard and think"go get it you a...hole!" Never failed when I was a kid and I'm a dead eye *smile* now from anywhere. Seems to just relax the mind and body and put me into a comfortable state to complete an action that you know you have done plenty of times before with success.

Maybe everyone should list there best goalkicking tips and we could send them all to the club!
 
With the Richo shocker that he miss kicked, actually I think he had a couple of them, you could see he rushed it, no structure or poise. Does structure really help Richo, maybe it might if he tried it?
 
Good post Philster - Royce Hart had a routine. Michael Roach had a routine.

However I'm sure I've read that it has been tried with Richo (it may have been Disco that tried to teach him) with no success.
 
Not wanting to praise up other teams players, but the facts speak for themselves.
Matthew Lloyd has a routine, as does Brendan Fevola (99 goals last year). These guys are highly paid professional athletes who make a living kicking a football reliably and accurately. How can that not be a part of our players skill set?
 
Richo has a routine for set shots but he just forgets it. When Campbell was playing and Richo got a free kick or mark, Campbo would race over and grab the ball from him, polish it on his jumper as he walked back with him to take his kick and remind him of the routine he needed to follow. Campbo had a near 100% success rate whenever he got this opportunity. We've had no-one to take over this team duty since Wayne left.
 
I know exactly what your saying Philster...............Funny thing with Richo I have noticed over the years and all the different "routines" his had is when he tempo is good he generally kicks well, think he no doubt suffers from the negative thoughts like "dont miss" "dont pull it " dont push It" rather then, like you say Phil sticking to his Routine, going through the process and keeping in the moment and the process.........how often do you think plyaers actually pick a persons hat out in the crowd or something like that as there target, rather the trying to guide it passed "the hazard" :hihi

but if jack r and other youngsters aren't working on routines for set goal shots then something MASSIVELY wrong.

look at someone like Aaron Baddeley. a reknowned very good putter. has a particular routine that has never really changed. he found something that works and sticks with it- doesn't muck around with it and this gives him confidence.

Baddeley is a great example, simple, focused, not 2nd guesing, Bang
