PRE should push for official recognition from the RFC. | PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

If you are feeling that the world is too hard to handle there is always help - I implore you not to hesitate in contacting one of these wonderful organisations Lifeline and Beyond Blue ... and I'm sure reaching out to our PRE community we will find a way to help. PRE should push for official recognition from the RFC.

There is a pseudo link anyway through Rhett Bartlett's articles.

Anyway, that's how I found PRE.

Would like to maintain independance from the club so that diversified opinions are possible without an element of spin doctoring.

Who cares whether the club gives us official recognition. In fact I'd rather they don't as this is primary a forum to voice opnions not make money for the club.Club 80's main focus is to raise funds for the club.Comparing apples with oranges. The club will always wary of sites like pre because opinions are obviously critical at times of the club & players.

Agree.

Looking at your photo gallery avatar, maybe we should call you Columbo the Dog. :hihi

Lots of thoughts on this one.

Firstly I've been thinking about handing over the reigns to someone else on PRE in the next year or two.  Sometimes I crave being able to just read and post without the workload and abuse and attention on other sites etc and I can't be an admin forever.  (I'm not ready to kick the admin bucket just yet though  ;D )

What really concerns me is finding the right person to take over.  I'm really proud of the overall feeling of belonging we have on PRE.  It's a real family community. Although we all have our ups and downs the majority respect the values.  The fact the site has grown so big reflects that.

I'd want to have faith the person who takes over would respect the things that's made PRE so resteemed not only by Tiger fans but by the media and opposition supporters as well.

It's extremely important to me for this site to remain independent of the club.  I've discussed that with people at the club in the past.  They understood that while they really appreciate PRE as a valuable tool to keep them in touch with how supporters are thinking everyone needs to feel free to express their opinions without the club coming down on them.

They certainly don't like everything they read but they've never tried to change the way PRE operates and have only contacted me to clarify things or ask for favours if it's necessary.

As to Phantom's suggestion of a link well I'd love that but don't expect it to happen.

The reason I'd like it is simply to advise people who are unaware that such a great place exists to talk about our club.  A site where scoops often beat the media and the latest news and gossip is always available, along with some very expert opinions and knowledge.

The thing I really think needs looking into is the contact between PRE and the club.  Way too many e-mails go unanswered which is a bit disappointing, especially when I don't contact them for my personal benefit.  It's always something for the club or other people.

Sometimes I feel like an unofficial secretary to the club and the hours can be pretty long at times.  I'm always getting e-mails asking me to contact the club to point things out or make requests etc.  Sometimes I suggest a person for them to contact themselves because I'm not confident of getting a reply.  They often don't get one either.

The fact is websites are a new kind of media. Club's might prefer forums go away but I don't think that's going to happen.  With a thousand visitors some days and a million hits here a month there are plenty of people reading what's said.

The media read it too so I feel a certain responsibility for information to be as accurate as possible and am concerned sometimes when I think mis-information could be damaging to the club.

I think it's in the club's best interests to embrace the concept to help improve communication for supporters.  There are a lot of people I know who've bought memberships simply as a result of the passion and encouragement on PRE.

Having said all of that I think PRE has a very good relationship with the club and I do understand they're very busy people there.

The PRE story might just make a very good rags to riches article early next year.  ;)

So many stories to tell.  Mark Latham eat ya heart out. ;D

If I can be so bold. I participate on another website and what they have is a concept of a number of recognised persons 2-6 who act as the first line defence so to speak. If you were to literally write down what you have to do then you can then divvy up those functions to esteemed and interested persons who would are prepared to take the responsibility seriously. You could still act as the supreme being with final say but essentially you allow three or so others to handle the work that you want to take a step back from. The key to keeping this site going is relying upon more than just one person - if you share the work around you have a chance of not burning out one person. Naturally if they go crazy you take away their admin rights. Essentially I believe that you need three persons not one to assist you. You also need to do it soon while you still have the desire/energy to educate/moderate the newbie moderators.

Brett

Oh re the topic - a link can't hurt. Lets just not get to the stage where we end up like Fremantle with every post edited for negative comments. I like our Darksiders, I agree with a lot of them and the posts keep up blood temperatre for many over those cold winter months. ;D

Its good fun

I do think if we start really flaming kids that the thread needs to be moved to a flame grill (let off steam) subject category to minimise impact on the particular player concerned - that would be my only reservation.

Mmmm,

I'd like PRE to retain it's independence as it offers it's writers and readers an unencumbered forum for all sorts of fans.

What I'd like to see is someone from the Club have a presence on the forum. Why I say this is because my ISP is Internode and on the Whirlpool forums, Simon Hackett, the man that runs Internode has added so much value because he participates in the discussions that goes on.
Many other Internode staff also write to the forum, responding to questions raised. Yeah, there's some trolling going on but they ignore the trash (mostly) and talk about their business from their point of view, to the benefit of all their customers.

Can you imaging the benefit of someone from Richmond writing to this forum? As it stands, and as I work for Champion Data, I too can add some knowledge to this forum because of what I do, though that doesn't happen all that often.

So get an RFC dude to post here and give us an insight into aspects of the club that are hidden from mostly everyone.

I agree our voice is heard loud and clear, we have our own input into how business is conducted at Punt Road.

Stand alone but striving through thoughts, ideas and words to get the Richmond Football Club back into becoming a elite club on the ground and a sound backing off the ground to give us the resources required to get back where we belong.

In answer to the thread title. No, leave it separate/individual. There's enough of a connection there.
