I'm working on the development team for a new AFL coaching game in the style of soccer's Football (or Championship) Manager and as the only Richmond supporter on the team, I've been given the job of rating the Richmond players in each of the many skill categories. My main job is working on the in-game newspaper, coming up with storylines and press conference questions and the like so I'd appreciate the assistance of knowledgable punt road enders with the ratings.
If, like me, you've been waiting for a game like this for forever, you might want to visit http://www.premiership-coach.com/ and sign up at the forums. The developers are willing to listen to suggestions and ideas and even if they can't be implemented for the first version, they might be added to future versions. This game is being taken very seriously despite the fact that it's a very small team who all have day jobs and are working on this simply because it's going to be the game we've all been waiting for.
The ratings I submit will only be a guide and the head boss man will have the final say (plus the lists will be updated before the games release in March 2008), but we're trying to save him a lot of work by getting most of the ratings done and he can go along and adjust as he sees fit.
I ask that, if you disagree with how another player has been rated, that instead of arguing about it here, you simply redo that player with the ratings that you think they deserve. We want the game to be as realistic as possible, so don't use this as an opportunity to bag a player you dislike or exaggerate the abilities of your favourites. That will just mean I have more crap to wade through as I try to decide on an accurate rating for each player.
I am going to go through the skill categories one by one, giving a list of AFL players to use as a guide for that skill. If you disagree with the guide, I don't want to hear about it. I think the guides are pretty good but I didn't come up with them and in any case they are not final. Much will be tweeked before the game is released.
The easiest way to do this is to cut and paste the Richmond list below and consult the guide to give each player a score out of 100. If you're unsure about a particular player, then feel free to leave them blank for that rating. Here's the list:
