Just putting it out there...when do people realistically think we have a chance of repating the glory of 1980? And what do we need to do to get there...forgetting any five year plans.

When? 2014 realistic How do we get there? Win a lot of games by implementing a backline capable of holding down dominant forwards ie: St Kilda this year

The Banana's have calculated with the Gold Coast Tunas and West Sydney Chickens coming into plays that
we could safely double Digglers estimate of 29 years - so we reckon about 2067

(B1 will be long gone or 99 Luft Balloons)

Glory of 1980 ? That was merely an after dinner mint in the grand scheme of things. 67 to 73 were our glory days.

Gee this is a tough and probably depressing question. When I was a little kid and we dominant the weak teams then were Melb and South and Fitzroy.

I remember thinking that they were so bad that I wouldn't see them win a flag in my lifetime. So, thirty years later Fitzroy are gone, South are gone (Does the Syd flag count?) and Melb have played in a couple and lost them both badly. Saints look good every few years or so, but haven't won one either.

At the moment a lot of the teams that were sort of on a par with us a few years ago seem to have gone past us: Hawks, Geelong, Bris, Carlton, Ess and maybe even Melb.

Who has slid past us? maybe North, time will tell.

So in the short term, say up to ten years, it doesn't look too good. And after that is anyone's guess.

Also been waiting for 29 years.

Happy to wait a few more as the love for the mighty Tiger's just won't fade.

I think we will have to be patient and get lucky in the draft over the next few years or trade in some key players before we'll get to see the MCG on Grand Final day.

Pessamistically - at least another 7 or 8 years.

Fun Ha!

cotchin deliedo nahas riewoldt tambling will bring us premiership glory within 5 years just gotta get right coach with next appointment please Not wayne campbell !

first things first is that we need to start playing the kids now. get some games into them. at the end of the season we must turnover 9-10 players.

players we drafted in 03 and 04 are getting towards to 100 game mark, and it's time they started taking control of our destiny. i actually believe we are capable of playing finals next year if we do things right. but our premiership window won't open til around 2013.

Just think we were all talking finals pre season. We had a team on the improve that would gradually improve and be ready to challenge in the next two to three years.
What happened. The teams that were rebuilding 4 or 5 years ago like us have now well and truely past us.
Geelong one a flag. Hawks won a flag,Carlton are contenders and Melbourne are on the improve.

We have listened to upbeat excusses for the last five years and have bottomed out again this season. We have got a better team to restructure than we did five years ago but we are back behind the eight ball once again. The whole football department needs rejigging maybe we should spend some money there instead and maybe poach some good talent from other teams football departments.

Guys we the RFC will break the record for years between flags....it will be over 75+ years
So in short I will die and will not witness a flag

Just curious as to why Sheedy spoke out before the season proper, and said we could win this years' flag.

Too difficult a question to answer - Talk of premierships is not even on my radar. All I am wanting is to see my team put in competitive performances on a weekly basis and if that happens maybe we will win some games. If we start winning some games our players might even start to believe that they can actually play (even the so-called duds in the team) and with a new found self-belief and confidence who knows where that could lead. Hopefully, finals wont be too many years away and when we start playing in finals on a regular basis then I will begin to think of premierships, but not before.
