PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

The finish of exams and the long weekend has given me the opportunity to re-look at one of my favourite research subjects. What makes a premiership list?

I've looked at some so far and there are some patterns, and some subtle differences. Each team has their individual feature, but they all carry some common factors.

Generally, what I have discovered so far is that:

1. All lists have sufficient depth to cover all positions, with one club being an exception.

2. That premiership lists contain many players that not only miss out on the big day, but often miss out on a significant AFL career. Even premiership lists carry "duds".

What I intend to do is to post various AFL premiership teams, so that we can get a perspective of not only the present, ie, a static perspective, but also how the composition of lists have evolved with the years, with a variety of clubs & cultures, ie, a dynamic perspective.

It may also generate discussion about posters' memories of these teams. What factors made them great. Hopefully, it will create some of that good old PRE debating style we're all fond of.

Cheers!
