If the Richmond Football Club is fair dinkum in rebuilding the list, I believe they should make a serious play for a young, up and coming, out of contract player from another club, assuming we get first pick in the pre-season draft.
The way to do this is to do it the old fashion way.....$$$$$$$. Make an offer to a young gun and reel them in with the temptation of a big contract.
Surely with the retirements and de-listing of a few players at years end, and the re-negotiation of other players contracts (Browny, Richo, Cogs, Krakouer) there must surely be plenty of room vacated in the salary cap.
This is a cut throat business and the Richmond Football Club have to be ruthless. With first pick in the pre-season draft, imagine obtaining a similar gun like Nick Stevens. This would be like getting a free kick in the goal square.
Unfortunately, the last time we had first pick in the pre-season draft, we got dudded as no big names were out of contract and we only ended up with Trent Knoble.
Imagine claiming a future 10 year player like Hamish McIntosh, Grant Birchall, Brent Stanton or Scott Pendlebury. (Hypothetical list but you get my drift)
Lets not live in fantasy land and think we will get a Chris Judd fall our way, because that is dilusional thinking, and that is what has got us in this position that we are in right now.
Do you guys think we should be aggressive in the pre season draft??
