Press Conference

I was the original member of the "No Terry to Tigerland" party when we were doing polls about prospective coaches last time jack. Once we have a coach and players I'll support then rather than bag them, so have hardly mentioned Terry since, but if he can't publicly take a bit of responsibility for his own contribution to the mess we're in, or try and con us that it was a good effort yesterday, it's hard to have too much respect.

I'd like Terry to front the Board under his own initiative this week, admit that after almost 5 years the team hasn't performed as he expected and offer his resignation, effective whenever the Board consider appropriate. Either he'll coach the year out or he'll step aside as they deem fit, but it will allow planning for next season to go ahead immediately.

Just cant see Walla$e admitting to failure in front of the Board and offering his resignation as more than likely that would mean he wouldnt be paid out hi$ contract.
Whats really funny is that he will more than likely have a job in the media offering expert comments waiting for him. :rofl :rofl

For the first quarter and a half the players took the game on. They played on at every opportunity, ran the lines, shared the ball and backed one another up.
They took some risks and surprise surprise out played Brisvegas. As soon as the pressure came on they froze.
Most of the players stopped taking risks and playing on. They started to look for the safe and easy option.
The one metre handpass to the flat footed spectator, the chip kick sideways or backwards to a lone bludger or the up and under toe poke to a contest.
Many of our players don't have any skill under pressure or don't trust themselves, they refuse to make a decision or take the most expedient option available and rarely make the second or third efforts required to assist teammates or force the pressure back onto the opposition.
This is a team that won eight out of eleven in the second half last year. Yep, when the season was virtually dead and no expectation left on them.
They collapsed under intense pressure round one against Cartoon.
They kicked eight goals in a quarter against the Cats and then slipped back into their comfortable mediocrity for an honorable, expected loss.
They collapsed under pressure from a very ordinary side in Melbourne and again as soon as Brisvegas started to make a contest.
Once Plough gets chopped you can bet a heap of players will lift their performance to impress the new coach and ensure their place on the list for next year.
It aint the coach who's a dud but the softcock self preservation society wearing tiger jumpers.
We need to hope and pray that our recruiting department is finally on a par with or better than the rest in the league because we severely lack players willing to attack the game for more than a few minutes.

Yeah but I think its the responsibility of the coach and development coaches to develop the ability to play under pressure. Do you think Essendon is composed of players who are strong mentally, not IMHO, yet look at how they're playing.

Yeah, Knights tells his players to take on the game whenever they can and tolerates mistakes. Better to take on the game 10 times and get it right 7 times, than to do what Richmond does and try to get each possesion perfect... and then still stuff it up more times than not!

Agree completely Rosy - Terry's press conference was every bit as disapponting as the game itself in my opinion.

Terry basically gave a commentary of the game - like he was auditioning for a media role...maybe he is/was!!

Some self analysis was necessary but he does not seem capable of realising the flaws in his own coaching.

In his own words we went ultra defensive to limit potential damage - rather than get his players to run harder and hurt them the other way we went back to that awful chip chip turnover game that killed us so early in the season.

Playing a midget forward line for most of the econd and third quarters was laughable. And dont get me started on Morton's omission.

Terry coached and spoke like a man who realises his time has long gone.

And it has...

A claim by TW that we did not respect the football. RFC has become the turnover kings under pressure.

A syndrome I call "Handball Happy". Indirect football that lacks polish and lack of belief in oneself.

A desease that has been inherent for a long time. Lions loaded the spin we went sideways. Weak inspid football.

RFC needs long direct football. Our courgae yesterday & endeavour to get the ball was there but once we got it.... ahhhh you could pull your hair out !

Be mindful that Terry has to put on a positive front for the media.

Be mindful that he is probably very different behind closed doors.

I know we're angry but just because he sounds happy we had a dip while talking to a camera, doesn't mean he's patting the boys on the bum saying 'nice job'.

I can handle him not ranting and raving about effort. Because I think they did put in an effort.

Where we sucked was our decision making and our skills. It's the same old story at tigerland.

Terry needs to take responsiblity for the lack of skills. He's been there for 4 and a bit years trying to improve them.

Agree Ian. That is why I don't think long term it is all doom and gloom. We just need a new football department and coach that can further develop the kids and make every player accountable for their actions week in week out.

it all starts at training and the way we prepare for games and the season
we need a fresh start, a game plan and a coach that refuses to accept crap footy
get it inside 50 via the corridor and keep it there

Strong rumour coming from within the club that since last weeks loss TW is likely to resign in the coming weeks. From what I'm told the general mood within the club is not good at all and TW knows he has to go to help the club move forward.

i hope its true. we have nothing to gain by keeping him on. he should have gone after the melbourne loss.

i have gone to the dark side in recent weeks, but i disagree with that. we sometimes need to give credit to the opposition. brisbane started using the zone in the 2nd quarter and we really struggled with it. but as one poster said... terry got outcoached a by 1st year coach. shame terry shame.

Life's too short to waste your time listening to TW spin his BS. Tick Tick Tick Terry. Enjoy it while it lasts mate. 3AW beckons.

No what happened was for the first quarter, we played three talls in the forward line (*smile* at FF, resting ruckman and JR) and we could be positive and attack with some confidence that at least there would be a contest. The first 10 minutes of the second quarter saw Brisbane come at us and Moore was knocked about and off the ground. Our gutless coaches (not just Wallace but the whole panel) looked at each other and paniced. Took the two talls out of the forward line and had them float behind the play and had the boys try to maintain possession. The rest is history.

Footy is about structure and patterns of ball movement. Our magnificent coaching panel are the only one in the league that will abandon their structures at the first signs of pressure. Funnilly enough our coaches mindset gets reflecting in the play of the players.

what i would give to be living in campbo's body right now. his last season as a RFC player was "dead man walking's" first year as coach. he had a year overseas, then had 2 years at footscray. now he's back for DMW's last year as coach. so campbo was here in DMW's first year as coach and last year as coach... i wonder how much DMW would have changed in that time...?
