Prestia !!

there was one kick down the half forward line that even the ball seemed made of cement

Even the most ardent Prestia supporter would have to admit now that we have paid massive overs for him.

His kicking is at a level you might see in the Upper Murray League.

Turnover king at Richmond.

Without doubt.
The Prestia deal on top of the Yarran deal.
How is this club ever going to progress with the fools responsible for these trades still present inside the four walls?
Hardwick was right about something, "what goes on inside these four walls, stays in these four walls".
Hartley and co will be at the club until they are finally carted out as mummy's,

I wouldn't call my self an ardent Prestia fan, however I wanted him as I had seen a lot of him at GC.

less than half a season into a 5 year deal, no, I wouldn't call it a bust, perhaps at year end 2 or 3 if this continues..

He was better last night, stil not at old level but certainly better.

What we paid for him has to be put in the past, it is a sunk cost.

Thought he was pretty important for us tonight.

Seems a smart little player, who knows what he is doing.

Improved performance

I dont care what others are saying about how good this guy can be, or how good he was at gc. The version of prestia we got is NOT an upgrade on miles. Whether its because we were sold a lemon, given his stuffed knees or whatever, he looks a complete liability at times. He cant chase, offers no defensive or offensive pressure, and his kicking is deplorable, and has zero penetration. Dont think ive seen him kick more than 35 metres.

Lets forget about what we paid for him, as thats already a bust, as it looks like we will get another 4 years of mediocre football, lose a potential drafting of a young gun, and prevent us from going after another big fish given his massive contract. What a complete debacle. Someone has to be held accountable.

Miles has not been very good when promoted this year. It looks like the game has already gone past him.

Hands in tight were good. Thought it was his best game for us thus far; which isn't saying much.

Very slow for a modern footballer, but at least he has a quick brain.

Not totally without hope of repaying us, but obviously has to improve his kicking. Diabolical for an elite draft pick.

Any coincidence that Martin and Cotchin get 30+ possessions when Prestia plays a 20 possession game?

IMO BEllis standing up had more of an impact and resulted in us winning than a 20 possession game by our midget

I think he had 14 or 15 touches at half time. So had maybe 6 or 7 touches after half time. Doesn't chase or tackle (1 tackle) and every second kick his foot totally misses he ball.

Crooked Prestia.

No, Tf. Prestia gets attention.

He was very good in the first half when some of our mids couldn't get a touch. Vital.

Talking to my dees member mate with strong club connections, he was goinv to Melbourne but we gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. May already have been mentioned. I'm willing to give him time and thought last nights game was a good one. Great in tight.

Watched him closely after the game and wad struggling to wall

With the celery cup set to rise 20% next year, 750k is the new 580. All of a sudden, 1x750 + 4x580 is a bargain price to pay to lure an A-grade mid. Prestia is an A-grade mid, when fit. But fitness is the big question mark. Time will tell.

At the end of 2009, Hawthorn traded two first-rounders for Shaun Burgoyne's dodgy knees. Burgoyne is a champion, and was then, but he was also a crock. Purportedly. He missed the first seven rounds of 2010. (Imagine the angst here if Prestia had missed the first seven.) In his first seven games for Hawthorn, Burgoyne had 20, 23, 15, 14, 19, 20, 19. 18 disposals a game. (Imagine the angst.) In eight games for us, Prestia has had 28, 24, 18, 22, 20, 16, 20, 22. Average 21. (Witness the angst.)

*But the kicking!* Yes, it's often terrible. There's a reason. Some of his kicking is like he's had a jab and can't feel his leg. Maybe he has. Or maybe he's just compensating and it's not working. Time will tell.

There's angst that we traded pick 6 (pick 7 in the end) but if we'd had pick 12 we would have traded that and no one would have batted an eyelid. I'm not going to get into a debate about whether he was worth the draft pick. Time will tell. In the meantime the angsters will watch Will Brodie (or Jack Scrimshaw for a true picture of what we gave up). Brodie made his debut yesterday (3 kicks, 6 handballs, 4 clearances, 3 clangers), while Scrimshaw is coming along more slowly. Time will tell.

What is inarguable is that we had a massive hole in our 23-24 age group and now we have a once and potentially again A-grader and his B+ mate - who wouldn't have come if we didn't get the first bloke - in that age group. That's list management. We're a better side with these two in it, and a better side is a more attractive destination for potential recruits. We'd be no chance of getting Schache or Reid or Gunston if we'd had another poor year with a list with gaping holes. Now, we can point to those holes and say, "See how well we're going, now imagine how good we'll be with you filling that gaping hole".

In a lot of ways, we had to do it. We had to trade in experienced AFL class players or we'd waste another year of our Champion Four, which could have snowballed into the next, and the next. We had to take a stand. Should we have traded three(?) firsts for O'Meara instead? One for Mitchell? Could we have lured him? Time will tell.

Like most, I was against trading pick 6(7) for Prestia. But it's done. Time will tell if it's the right move and those who made it will be hanged or praised. I think he is on the improve. I hope we get to see his best, regularly. That will quell the angst.

Great post, spook.
