Priority Picks

Malthouse came up with a fantastic idea before. Pirority picks should be taken in the second round. Makes sense, that way everone get a better choice for their first pick.

That idea has floated around by a few people and believe is the most sensible. Allow the clubs the gain an extra player after all the clubs have gone through the first round of 16 picks. This way is not too much of an advantage.

For the PSD draft though I think that should be revamped also. No advantage should be given to any club based on their finishing position. There should be a lottery drawn on who gets what pick after all trades are done. This way no club has an advantage to hold any club to ransom to try to force a deal.

Also the trade period should be reduced from 5 days to 2 & half. That was nothing short of a joke last year. Nothing happended till the end.

Isn't the point of the priority pick to allow clubs that are lacking in quality players to pick up an additional top pick to ensure that the club can improve moving into the future? If that is the case then what will an additional second round pick do? Whilst in many drafts, you can still pick up a quality player in the second round, it's still a bit risky, meaning it may not help a club to improve.

As a result, I think the priority pick still needs to be in the first round at the start of the draft. However, I tend to favour the eligibility rules changing so that only clubs that have been down for an extended period of time can benefit (i.e. not on the back of one poor year as a result of injuries).

maybe the easiest way to modify the current system would be to exclude any team who has played finals football in the preceding two years from accessing any priority picks!!!!!!!

Exactly Yandb...it's a farce that a team that played in the GF 44 games ago is now getting priority picks. Maybe the rule should be that any team called Collingwood are ineligible!
