Just had a little look at the ladders from the last few seasons and can see how this 9th is better than the other 9ths we have produced in the last few years.

2006 - 86.15% (9th)
2005 - 92.33% (12th)
2004 - 69.24% (16th)
2003 - 88.84% (13th)

2008 - 97.38 (9th)

i think this shows that we are now being more competitive in the games we have been mauled in the past. Hawthorn, 1st game against geelong, st kilda, bulldogs....all teams in the top 4, we put a good show and could arguably won all of these games. Plenty to look forward to in the years to come as we will continue to improve with the more game time these kids get.

I didnt go far enough back to find the last time we had a % of above 100 but i can only imagine it was 2001.

I would say it would be a dissapointing year if we dont make the finals next season

Terry would be happy with 'the graph' heading in the right direction ...

Another important point is that the % would be better if we won by greater margins, although this year was much improved on winning the tight games whereas in the past we would lose the close ones.

At least the floggings that caused a low % have been reduced this year, although there were still a few blowouts that hurt.

Except for North, it's still a long way behind the percentage of the other top 8 teams.

We won 8 out of the last 11 games - i think the trend is pretty positive

We also played Geelong and Hawthorn twice and went interstate 5 times

We ended up with 2 less points than Collingwood who fill the newspapers day in and day out

Good thread. probably the most compelling evidence that we had a better year than previously.

We also managed to kick the magic 16 goal figure 11 times this season. A vast improvement on previous efforts under Terry.

2 revelations in one day: first jbdumbo3's GE Money sponsor assertion and now claw's "be positive" one.

Interestingly, my 13 year old son always says that the first team to get to 100pts usually wins the game and we managed this much more consistently this year. In previous years, we could barely manage to get to 100 pts ... let alone win the game ...

We averaged over 100 points per game this year, so I'm pretty happy with that.

Unfortunately we also averaged 100 points against us per game. How does a vastly improved backline still leak so much?

Killed in the small man department. An opposition small often had a day out against the Tigers this year.

yep, that's been our achilles heel for a while. can dean polo be the than man to play on the opposition small forwards? king, newman, raines, not up to that role.

Seems to be going alright at the minute at Coburg, regularly in the bests in the last 1/3 or 1/2 of the year.
Another injury setback could mean curtains, but we're talking 2009 now the season is over, so why not?

Exactly same thing was being said by many last year ( me included) in how we stop these small forward killing us.
It's been bugging us for years, pre and post wallace. Polo (should get another chance but hasn't done it when given that role), King (failed), Newman (more attacking than defending), Raines (enigma).

Meyer perhaps?
Decent pace, doesn't mind the hard stuff and a lovely kick

I hope so, if he can't do this or replace McMahon I can't see he has a future with us. Next year will tell, here's hoping he can stay injury free and give it 100% so we can fairly judge.

Agree that this is something that has plagued the team for a while now.

I nominate Raines for the job. Has proven in the past to be an effective stopper of small forwards when not preoccupied with rebound from defence. Good size, pace, can stick a tackle and plays with a bit of aggression.

That was a stated aim when he came on board.....good to see it finally starting to happen.

As others have said, we now need to improve the other end.
