afl has flagged the possibility of changes to its "veteran status" players.
As it stands now, a player needs to have played for 10 years at one club, and be a minimum of 30 years of age.
proposed change is a player only needs to be 30 years of age and to have played in the afl for 10 years (note: not at one club).
This will allow some movement of players and their "veterans" wage can reduce the tpp at their "new" club. ie judd has played since 2002, and would be eligible for "vet" status at the scum after 2011.

Also changes to total number of players, currently at 5, will be lifted. There will be no restriction on the maximum number of players able to be traded, delisted etc.
Also the current restriction of 3 players able to be traded in any one transaction has been lifted.
So in theory a club could delist and trade as many on its list as it wanted, instead of the current max of 5.
This needs to be rubber stamped by the afl commission.

I didn't realise you could only trade a max of 5.??

These have also been approved, but need commissions endorsement
An October 31 deadline rule for uncontracted players to be able to nominate for the ND and PSD (atm they can only nominate for the PSD)
Fewer restrictions on mature age rookies, over 23 with a small number of games eligible

(I hope I've posted the report factually. Any mistakes are the fault of someone else ;D)

AFL initiatives to try and defer the AFLPA push for a free agency deal.
Just a bunch of half measures by Dimi and the boys.

Sure on one hand I agree - it might prolong the career of a few players but on the other hand I don't.

One of the things that makes a club is that your 10 year playing veterans become the next generation of clubmen and mentors. This rule will increase the capability to get rid of them in their last or second last season and the human impact of being shopped may mean we lose players from around the club whose impact will be far greater over the next ten or twenty years than the net benefit of the trade ever will be.

I mean look at North. How devastating is it that the King isn't around lifting his glass to the North faithful. :hihi
