Thought I would start a thread for people to post their reviews on the player they have been president of throughout the year, so we can all read them. My player was Andrew Krakouer.
After a somewhat average 2005, Andrew Krakouer always needed a big year in 06. Possibly put up for trade last year, Andy knew he would have to play a more consistent role if he wanted to still be on the list for years to come. After a somewhat OK game in Round 1 compared to the other Tiger players on the night, Krakouer went missing in Round 2 and lost his spot for rounds 3 and 4 due to Omission or Injury. He then came back in Round 5 against Carlton, his bunny team, and played very well, picking up 15 touches and booting a couple of crucial goals. And in Round 6 in the Dreamtime at the G' clash, while not his best night, he still kicked another crucial goal. Andrew then enjoyed a very nice patch of football during Rounds 7-9, averaging a tick over 18 possessions and 1 goal. Krakouer missed Round 10 through injury, and had two quiet weeks in Rounds 11 and 12.
After the midseason break, Andrew seemed to be quite refreshed and looked to be enjoying his footy a whole lot more. In an inspirational game in the wet against Collingwood in Round 13, the 'MCG Man' dubbed by Brian Taylor, booted three classic roving goals, and celebrated each one with much enthusiasm, and this game got his season back in order. The following week against Port Adelaide he played arguably the best game of his career, racking up 23 touches and kicking 2 goals in a forward pocket role. Krakouer's next five weeks would frustrate Richmond fans though, as he played poorly in Rounds 15-16, missed Round 17 and again played poorly in Rounds 18-19. Andrew came good though against, you guessed it, Carlton, in Round 20 with another fantastic performance of 15 possessions and 3 goals, one of which was straight out of the Roving Manual. In Round 21 against Essendon though, after just coming on and taking a mark and booting a goal, Krakouer would hobble off with an ankle injury which would end his night and season.
Overall I think Andrew needs to obviously get more consistent, but he was getting more consistent little by little. Whereas the Krakouer of old would have one great game and then go missing for four, Krakouer this year was able to string 2 or 3 outstanding games together on multiple occasions. So where is he at? I believe he will get another go around next year, after all, he did improve, and isn't that all you can ask for a player to do?
This is skiptomystu, signing off as Andrew Krakouer's Proud President, for 2006.
